We haven't done anything to put new industries in place. We are losing jobs and skills.
We need a plan for industry and serious investment.

#Budget2026
Jobs gone, production offshored, communities weakened.
Steve's employer and his town are not unique. The same story can be heard all over the country, and the effects cut deep.
But it doesn't have to be like this. Government investment and a plan to reindustrialise could regenerate communities and the economy, create jobs and get us ready for the new, clean, hi-tec economy of the future.
The government could start this at the #Budget2026
😡Capita pensioners like Barry have been left waiting for months with no income, due to the incompetence of the outsourcing giant.
Even against the backdrop of the widespread failure of the outsourcing experiment - which has sacrificed service to profit - the Capita pensions scandal is a spectacular failure. And pensioners like Barry are paying the price.
Time for the government to act ⏰
Stop punishing the poor. Start taxing profits 📣
After years of working people bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis, it’s time to make the companies raking in huge profits on the back of it pay their fair share.
London Unite community member Kay explains why we need an economy that works for working people, not just the wealthy.

😡 20 years ago, Suzanne was being bullied by her manager, so she went to see her union rep. “I told him, ‘I’m fed up. I love this job, but this woman won’t let me breathe. She keeps giving me the worst shifts & treats me horribly’,” Suzanne recalled. “He told me to join the union, & I did.” Fast forward 20 years & Suzanne is a member of Unite's executive council & is collecting an award for 20 years of service to the NHS.
🏥 “Speaking with patients and caring for them – just being there for them at a hard time in their lives – that’s what I love about the job.”
👏 Congratulations & solidarity Suzanne!

Stronger together ✊
The trade unionism movement is about making sure every worker has a voice, is treated fairly and has the opportunity to thrive.
As new employment rights for equalities reps come through in just over a week, our #Equalities Conference brought together Unite members from across the regions, including BAEM, LGBT+, disabled and women reps to share experiences, discuss the challenges and strengthen our collective fight.
See our new Equalities webpage for resources to help make your workplace fairer: unitetheunion.org/equalities
When Ciaran’s employer scrapped its equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives, he knew he couldn't just sit back with the impact on him and his colleagues.
But with the backing of his union, he’s using his voice to stand up for equality ✊
Our equality reps are fighting to make sure every worker is treated fairly, discrimination is challenged and nobody is left behind from challenging racism and sexism to fighting for disability rights and LGBTQ+ equality for fairier workplaces.
🎤 Hear why Ciaran stepped up to the role.

✊ Solidarity to our members at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, striking again today for fair pay & respect. You shouldn't struggle to make ends meet when you've spent all week struggling to keep a vital hospital running
They keep hospitals clean, patients fed, and wards safe, but they're juggling multiple jobs as the cost of living bites. 😡
NHS band two workers earn just £15.89 an hour. At Guy's and St Thomas' they're fighting against poverty pay, and for dignity at work.

🚨 SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS NOT PART OF THE JOB.
No worker should have to put up with sexual harassment from customers, clients or anyone else while they’re at work.
In hospitality, too many workers face unwanted comments, advances and inappropriate behaviour – and too often, they’re expected to just put up with it.
That has to change.
New legal protections on the 30th October mean employers must take action to prevent sexual harassment by third parties, such as customers and clients.
Our union is standing up for workers and giving reps the tools to challenge harassment and hold employers accountable. We’ve developed resources and a toolkit to help reps understand the law, support members and make workplaces safer for everyone.
Harassment is never just part of the job. Know your rights. Challenge it. Take action with our toolkits: unitetheunion.org/campaigns/…

“In my conversations with the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, I have been very clear that whilst we of course support net zero, we cannot have a jobless transition, abandon our energy security or offshore our carbon responsibilities.
This gives us a bit more time to create and fund a concrete plan for commensurate jobs for workers currently working in the North Sea” @UniteSharon
Energy Secretary @Miatsf has agreed that the regulator can grant consent for gas to be produced at the licensed Jackdaw field.
Gas from Jackdaw is expected to start reaching British homes and businesses as early as the end of this month.
Behind every flight are workers who deserve to do their jobs without fear of abuse, intimidation or violence.
No worker should have to put up with this. And no one should have to sacrifice their mental health to earn a living.
Abuse like this should never be part of the job. That’s why Unite is demanding tougher action against abusive passengers, coordinated bans for serious and repeat offenders, and minimum safety standards to protect workers across airports and airlines.

How can we be paying NHS workers below the real living wage & proposing another below-inflation pay rise (i.e. a cut ✂️)?
🏥 Another #NHS real terms pay cut would be an insult
NHS workers are overworked, underpaid and undervalued, and the lowest paid are barely above the minimum wage. Workers are being asked to carry ever heavier workloads with fewer colleagues.
@GOVUK must deliver restorative pay, put all NHS workers firmly above the real living wage, and fund the increase in full so that it doesn’t cost jobs.
🔈 Loud music on the bus can be annoying. But violence towards transport workers has no place 🚫
Support Unite's campaign to protect bus and tram workers from verbal and physical assault - comment and share.
It takes workers standing together, challenging discrimination and making sure every voice is heard for us to create fair workplaces ✊
That’s why equality is key in workplaces and why equality reps are so important in the trade union movement - because they help tackle inequality in the workplace, support members facing discrimination and fight for fair treatment for everyone.
From challenging racism and sexism to fighting for disability rights and LGBTQ+ equality, their work helps make our workplaces fairer and our union stronger.
As, Unite's equality conference kicks off, here is Executive Council member of Unite the Union representing all Black, and Asian Ethnic Minority (BAEM) members at TUC Congress sharing why this is a collective fight - and why we all have a part to play.

After nearly 50 years working as a civil servant at RAF Lossiemouth, Kenneth thought he could rely on his pension after retirement. Then Capita tool control of his pension scheme.
Despite retiring in May, Kenneth hasn't been paid a penny by Capita. And he's not alone. Thousands are left without an income by outsourced incompetence.
📣 Pls shout out and share, and tell Capita to pay up or move over ♻️

"You look at the mines - and more recently, I'm a proud steel worker, and we've seen 2000 odd jobs go in Port Talbot.
But you know, it doesn't have to be that way."
De-industrialisation devastated communities like Ian's. A programme of re-industrialisation could create jobs and apprenticeships and put places like Port Talbot front of line to benefit fro the gains of the green, hi-tech economy of the future

💶 We start paying the 20% tax rate when we earn £12,570.
🥶 This threshold has been frozen since 2022.
📈 If it had risen with inflation, it would be £16,600.
This costs the average worker £2,200.
