Keeping our country safe is the first duty of government.
It is an honour to take on the role of Defence Secretary. We'll ensure our armed forces have the resources they need and stand steadfast alongside our international allies, especially Ukraine 🇺🇦
Let’s get to work 🇬🇧

We’ve been doing this for years in Sweden. It’s not a deep state conspiracy, it’s common sense.

The Prime Minister presented a special recognition award at the Pride of Britain Awards to honour the founders of Andy’s Man Club, Elaine and Luke.
In 2016, Andy Roberts, Elaine’s son and Luke’s brother-in-law, tragically took his own life at just 23 years old. The pair went on to create Andy's Man Club, a male suicide prevention charity that has grown from a single group in Halifax to more than 360 groups nationwide.
Through its mission to break the stigma around men’s mental health, Andy’s Man Club has saved thousands of lives and inspired men to speak up when they need help 🤝

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the UK and Germany's landmark Trinity House defence agreement.
The last year has seen our nations advance a joint programme to develop new long-range precision missiles, while German P-8 aircraft have flown from RAF Lossiemouth as part of a major NATO exercise.
Together our nations are stepping up to lead in defending Europe from rising threats. 🇬🇧🇩🇪

This week RAF Typhoons have flown alongside French Rafale jets - the first time the UK has taken part in a French nuclear air exercise. It's a landmark step in UK-France defence co-operation, and a clear signal that we stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies on European security and credible deterrence.

Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control.
The facts tell a different story.
As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today:
Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981.
Robbery is at a record low.
Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995.
And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too:
Knife crime is down 11%.
Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years.
Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone.
But I know there is more that we must do, and we will:
We’ve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood.
We’re introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation.
We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy.
And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with £250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.

Strongly support @Miatsf on this - driving our energy security and investing in the transition to renewables.
In the middle of an energy crisis, homegrown gas has a role to play in our energy security as we transition to net zero.
We’ll also invest North Sea revenues in renewables and other low-carbon projects.
