Despite the fines and mounting pressure, Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair continues to honour Palestinian children killed in Gaza.
This time, it’s Lana, 12, and Bana, 8, who were killed alongside their family in an Israeli attack earlier this month.

Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was told by an NFL official to remove the name of Wafaa Akila, an 8-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza, from his eye black during the Texans’ Week 2 game or he would not be allowed to continue playing, according to a league source.
According to Reuters, Wafaa Akila was killed earlier this month by an Israeli airstrike.

I run a music marketplace. 17 years, 10M+ creators. So I’ll speak to the one thing you’re lumping in with data centers and pre-approval: training data.
Permissionless innovation won the internet by shipping products. It never meant other people’s work was free raw material for your model. That’s not permissionless, that’s just unlicensed IP theft.
We tested the “asking permission can’t scale” claim. Asked our creators directly: Millions of audio files opted in to AI training. Consent at scale is live infrastructure, not a hypothetical. Companies skipping it are making a choice, not facing a constraint.
So be precise about what race we’re in. If winning means whoever ingests the most unlicensed work fastest, you will never out-permissionless a country that doesn’t recognize the rights in the first place. That’s their home turf. America’s edge was always trust: rights that hold, deals that pay, markets people believe in.
Permissionless for whom?
This is concerning. For the first time, a Chinese model Kimi K3 has taken #1 on the Frontend Code Arena and is scoring at or near the frontier on other benchmarks.
Meanwhile America is tying itself in knots: politicians and bureaucrats are banning new data centers, piling on state regulations, and pushing for new federal agencies to pre-approve frontier models.
This is how you lose the AI race. The rest of the world won’t play by our rules if we bog ourselves down. Permissionless innovation is how America won the internet and became the technological envy of the world. We can do it again with AI -- while addressing risks in a targeted way -- or we’ll watch our lead evaporate.
