NEW EP: Is voting on doing racism and xenophobia a good idea? Could it maybe be a bad idea? @JeremyAppel1025 weighs in: albertaadvantagepod.com/2026…

🎯"Scapegoating Ottawa and immigrants for the government’s failures to appropriately fund education and health care cannot absolve Premier Danielle Smith and her government from accountability. Albertans deserve better," write these U of A Emergency Medicine professors.

Alberta separatism doesn't have to win a referendum to succeed. The movement's real danger lies in weaponizing western alienation to normalize anti-immigrant racism and build far-right political power across Canada, write Megan Aiken and Will Kujala. canadiandimension.com/articl…

I think Alberta's upcoming referendum is less about whether it wants to separate from Canada and more about normalising it as a xenophobic, racist society judging by the amount of questions about immigration on it.

"All physicians take an oath to 'do no harm.' Yet under dual practice, those with money will be treated before those who are very sick and need it most."

NEW: In the @TorontoStar, I wrote about how the biggest danger posed by Alberta's October referendum isn't the prospect of separatism; it's the five questions on immigration.

AB's Bill 11 is "turning public health care into a financial cushion to reduce the risks associated with for-profit medicine."
Shameful! Albertans—& everyone in Canada—deserves health care that prioritizes patients over profits.

"She brazenly violated the Canada Health Act by permitting physicians to work in the public and private systems simultaneously and creating a private insurance market for medically necessary procedures, enabling the haves to jump the queue while the have-nots face increasing wait times in the public system." @JeremyAppel1025 says of @ABDanielleSmith #abpoli #cdnpoli #qcpoli #onpoli @MarjoriePLC @MarkJCarney @mablanchard65

Blame Ottawa? Most of Alberta’s economic discontent has roots in policies cooked up right here at home. albertapolitics.ca/2026/09/b… #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli

All over Alberta + Canada today folks SHOWED UP for the National Day of Action to defend public health care!✊ Because Bill 11 = health care no longer based on need, but ability to pay.

It would be terrible if @means_tv learned that a government minister in Alberta, Canada was melting down over their video of puppets explaining communism
I hope this isn't real. I hope a sitting Edmonton city councillor isn’t endorsing communism in Canada.
This isn't the usual left-vs-right debate. Liberals and Conservatives have always stood together against communism, because it's not just another political view. It demands total state control and attacks the foundations of our society, your faith, your kids' education, what you're allowed to say, every aspect of your life is subject to the idea of communism.
And it's the deadliest idea in human history: an estimated 65–100 million killed last century. Communism is truly evil. Don’t believe me? Just ask the thousands of Edmontonians who fled communist regimes in the USSR, China, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Edmontonians elected their councillor to deliver core services, roads, water, snow clearing- not to stump for deadly ideology on Instagram.

Being systemically oppressed in Canada is when your entire community burns to the ground and not only does no one care, you aren't given the resources to deal with the trauma.
It is not when your professor says Israel is Fake and Sucks Ass.

"Alberta is not following an established international model. It is conducting a policy experiment with well-documented harms and unproven benefits."

We can't keep scapegoating.
The reality is: our health care issues are the direct result of policy priorities! During this time period, Alberta's government has funnelled record public dollars into private profits while evidence is ignored and patient care neglected. – at Alberta, Canada

NEW: At a certain point, one must inevitably concede that Carney's concessions to Trump aren't concessions at all, but mutual priorities.
