Selective disclosure on Canton means information is shared only with the parties who need to know.
You followed our Summit lead-up. You already understand privacy.
The Summit itself kept that spirit, but we're not leaving you hanging.
Here's a taste of what was shared inside.
Canton’s sub-transaction privacy gives each party only its own slice of a transaction, made of three permissions, stakeholder visibility, divulgence, and disclosure.
@Hackenclub has put together examples showing how keeping them distinct decides which party can act on what.
On @CantonNetwork, "who can see this contract?" sounds simple. It is actually three questions: who was told about it, who saw it and who is permitted to use it.
Get the distinction wrong and your KYC provider could see the loan rate.
Hacken's new research works through a loan example:
• A KYC provider added as an observer on the loan sees every field, including the amount, rate and lender.
• If the identity moves to a separate contract but is fetched inside the loan's Accept choice, every witness of Accept sees it.
• A better approach is to fetch only a pass/fail attestation rather than the full identity record.
To remove an observer, the contract must be archived and recreated, because Daml contracts are immutable.
The Ledger API is not the boundary. Divulged copies remain in participant storage until pruning, and the receiving party's validator operator can read them.
None of this shows up as a failing test.

The need for confidentiality across connected financial services is why many institutions build on Canton.
@TitanExchange_ designed its venue around that, keeping balances and positions private while price discovery stays public.

Early architecture decisions, like identity and infrastructure ownership, are hard to revisit once development is underway.
Hacken is hosting a panel on Oct 29 with @Catalyx_Suite, @Noves_Fi, and C7 on key decisions builders work through before building on Canton.
Learn more.
On 29 October, @catalyx_suite by @IntellectEU, C7, @Noves_fi, and Hacken will examine the five decisions institutions must settle before building on @CantonNetwork, and who should own each.
• Who holds the key behind the institution’s party identity?
• What does Canton’s privacy model guarantee by default, and what is left to the application designer?
• Should infrastructure be self-operated or managed, and how does each option affect the ability to exit?
• What should a security review verify before a Daml application is released?
• Which records will exist when an auditor or regulator asks what happened?
Reversing most of these decisions becomes costly once development is underway.

Many of the blockchains built in the last 4-12 years were designed to replicate data to everyone, a structural choice that made privacy hard to add later.
Canton made privacy a starting requirement, built into the protocol from day one.

On their quarterly earnings call, @Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman highlighted collateral mobility as a leading near-term opportunity for tokenization, citing a Canton proof of concept with Vanguard and Wellington that moved collateral between pools “instantly” and “perfectly.”
Tokenizing assets was the first step. Making them move is the real opportunity.
That’s the financial market utility Canton is built for.

@HeslinKim discuses at @BlockworksDAS Asia.
Canton’s June synchronizer upgrade eliminated the need for coordinated migrations and network interruptions.
Two synchronizers run in parallel, replicating state between them while presenting a single logical synchronizer to validators and applications.
Transactions continue uninterrupted. The topology ledger holds its state for a few hours during the upgrade window, with future iterations expected to reduce that to minutes or seconds.
