As part of our Community Awareness & Partnership Through Units Reaching Everyone (C.A.P.T.U.R.E.) initiative, our second event brought members of our Patrol K9 and Bomb Squad units together with a local senior group for a day of learning, conversation and connection. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the important work these units do, ask questions and build relationships with the officers who serve our community. Thank you, St. Andrews United Methodist Church for having us!
Road Closure in the University City Division atlasone.app/alerts/f0a95276…
Representatives from all 28 hotels across Uptown recently came together for the Charlotte City Center Hotel Security Alliance, a new partnership focused on strengthening communication, sharing resources and addressing common safety concerns. The meeting brought together hospitality leaders, law enforcement and community partners to discuss crime trends, safety initiatives and collaborative solutions, all with the goal of creating a safer and more connected Center City.
Great work by Officer Smith, of our Central Division, for working with stakeholders to make this happen!
Congratulations to Recruit Class 205 for becoming official Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers! Today marks the beginning of a rewarding career dedicated to service, integrity and protecting our community. We are proud of your hard work, commitment and achievement. Well done graduates, welcome to our ranks!
I think it's fair to say our Airport Explosive Detection K9s did not understand this trend... They are clearly workaholics who thought this was just some strange intricate training scenario 😂
Eli especially was not prepared to be stared at by 5 handlers with no commands, so he decided just to stare back and Keis decided to join in the lineup. 😅
Outstanding work by our Northwest Service Area Crime Reduction Unit (CRU)! After receiving a Crime Stoppers tip regarding suspected drug activity at a residence in the Freedom Division, officers initiated an investigation that led to two traffic stops, two arrests and the seizure of suspected narcotics.
Officers also executed a search warrant at the residence, arresting a third individual and recovering additional narcotics, firearms, cash and drug paraphernalia.
Items seized included:
• Approximately 16 pounds of suspected marijuana
• Approximately 1 pound of suspected psilocybin mushrooms
• Approximately 5 pounds of suspected synthetic marijuana
• Approximately 360 milligrams of suspected codeine
• Over $5,000 in U.S. currency
• Four firearms, including one reported stolen
By removing a significant quantity of illegal narcotics and multiple firearms from the community, this investigation underscores the value of proactive police work, diligent investigations and community involvement through programs such as Crime Stoppers in keeping Charlotte safe.
Great job to our Northwest Service Area CRU for their dedication and commitment to reducing crime and improving quality of life in our neighborhoods!

After recently discovering an unsecured fence and detecting the odor of burnt plastic on CMS property, Freedom Division officers conducted an area check to determine whether a fire or other hazard was present. During their inspection, they were approached by a truck occupied by four individuals.
As officers approached the vehicle, they observed a comforter laid out in the bed of the truck with small copper wires poking out from under it with what appeared to be a cutting instrument on top.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located approximately $3,000 worth of AT&T copper wire that had been cut down, as well as climbing gear – ropes, a harness and shoe spikes.
The individuals were transported to the Freedom Division and interviewed by detectives. It was determined that the wire was cut down from a location outside of Charlotte and brought back to the incident location to be stripped and burned before it could be sold.
Ph Ren Y, Y Menh Nie, Vuh A and Son Nguyen were all arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property, First Degree Trespassing and Felony Conspiracy.
Son Nguyen was also charged in relation to an additional copper theft incident.
Copper theft is a significant crime that extends far beyond the value of the stolen material. These incidents can cause power outages, damage critical infrastructure, disrupt essential services and require expensive repairs that ultimately impact residents, businesses and taxpayers alike.
Shoutout to our Freedom Division officers for their attention to detail and persistence in working to disrupt and prevent copper theft.

As we head into the holiday season, we wanted to remind everyone of these quick tips to stay safe when meeting someone for an online sale:
✅ Choose a public, well-lit spot — Safe Exchange Zones are ideal, but any busy place with lighting and foot traffic works. There are more than a dozen Safe Exchange Zones at Charlotte area QuikTrip locations!
📍 Tell someone your plan — Always let a friend or family member know where you're going and who you're meeting.
👥 Bring a friend — There's safety in numbers. Even one friend makes a difference.
💡 Trust your instincts — If something feels off, it probably is. Cancel or walk away. Your safety comes first.

The countdown to graduation is on for Recruit Class 205 as they started their final week of the academy today! 👀 In anticipation of their graduation this coming Friday, Chief Patterson, along with other executive command staff and recruitment and training leadership, joined them last Friday morning for their final group workout as recruits. It was a great morning of team bonding and encouragement as they round the final corner of their academy journey and prepare to take their first steps as official Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers. 🙌
Final score: CMPD 1, Charlotte FC Staff 5. In our defense... they're headed for the playoffs! 😅😉
Our CMPD soccer team had an amazing time facing off with the Charlotte FC staff in a friendly match last week! It was an incredible experience and a great opportunity to build relationships through the game we all love.

Law Enforcement Training In The Central Division atlasone.app/alerts/9d8b2db4…
Charlotte's Youth Protection Ordinance starts today! Anyone under 17 years old and younger must be home by 10 p.m., any day of the week. There are several exceptions including traveling to or from work, school or religious event or if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
This proactive measure is designed to reduce the risk of victimization, limit exposure to criminal activity and help ensure young people are safe, supported and set up for success.
This ordinance is designed to provide another layer of protection for young people while also supporting parents, guardians and our community's shared commitment to safety. While this effort is about protection not criminalization, it is important to remember that this is now the law. Like any law, compliance is expected, and violations may result in enforcement action.
Together, we can help ensure our youth are safe, our neighborhoods remain secure and our community continues to thrive.

Happy Halloween from CMPD! 🎃
Wishing everyone a spooktacular day! We thought a spooky photoshoot with a few of our airport K9s (and a couple special guests thrown in) was the perfect way to help get you in the Halloween spirit - these were the best we could get... 😅😂
Who thinks these should be their official uniforms moving forward? 😉
