Hegseth’s team has not responded to several requests last night and this morning for and about this statement.
Noteworthy statement. That said, it comes after Hegseth fired three appointees last year and accused them of leaking classified info. In that case, no evidence was ever presented. One of them, Dan Caldwell, was later installed in another admin job, undercutting Hegseth.

NEW: On background from a War Department official: Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, who was part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was fired by Secretary Hegseth for severe misconduct. Although Sylvia’s title was director of the Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, known inside the military as the J5, he was NOT a central planner for the Iran War. That is the responsibility of CENTCOM and its commander Admiral Cooper. Sylvia is the subject of an investigation for leaking classified information about the Iran War, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and more. Due to the Pentagon’s media policy requiring journalists to have escorts in the building, Sylvia began meeting with journalists outside of the Pentagon in order to leak classified information. Sylvia failed three polygraphs which questioned him about leaking classified information. The investigation into him remains ongoing and has been referred to the Department of Justice for further action. The extent of his leaking became so critical that Secretary Hegseth took immediate action and fired Sylvia in order to protect national security. Urgent action was needed and could not wait another second.

It's true: Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia has been ousted from his Joint Staff role, say officials familiar w/ the issue. Several voiced exasperation, citing his work as a well regarded 101st Airborne Division commander. He's also a recipient of the Bronze Star with V and Purple Heart.

Gen. Ronald Clark, head of U.S. Army Pacific, told a defense conference that his command has prepared the Pacific theater under the assumption China will have the capacity — and possibly the intent — to seize Taiwan by force next year. (from @WyattwOlson) stripes.com/branches/army/20…

I, for one, am glad to see the Red Sox Commonwealth has seized new territory from the Evil Empire in long contested Connecticut.

President Trump has more unfilled Senate-confirmed positions than any president at this point in his administration since Ronald Reagan. In our story for @washingtonpost, senior officials defend a more deliberate approach to hiring that prioritizes vetting over speed washingtonpost.com/politics/…

It's still not legally the Department of War. It's a secondary title created by the administration. This year's NDAA might change that.
President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had the conviction to call us the Department of War and say it plainly: America’s military exists to deter war through strength and, if necessary, fight and win. The President has acted. Now Congress must finish the job and enshrine the Department of War name in law. foxnews.com/opinion/trump-re…

The debris trucks I photographed yesterday at the East Potomac Golf Course with taped-over logos also went so far as to tape over their license plates. Just re-watched the video I shot of them arriving and noticed that.
