Merry Christmas from The Deadline Shakes!

Throughout the album, there are parts where I tell my son with probably too much needy excitement, ‘This sounds like MarioKart!!’. To be fair, he agrees with a smile and it lights up our drives - we’re both having a nice time.
‘On the Other Side’ is an expression of the importance of sticking it out through bad times and being there to help pick things up down the line. David sings that no-one else can take our place. I think of my brother and message him.
There’s a bit in ‘Absolutely Negative’ where, after the opening salvo, there’s a couple of bars where there are drums and nothing much else, but oh hold on, then the absolute best that guitars can ever sound for 8 secs or so then back into the next verse, casual like.
There’s a bit in ‘Sounds About Right’ where the line ‘I’ve should’ve known’ is met in the street by the most mournful synth-wail, and the song pulses on with a stiff upper lip, of sorts, heading home regardless. Wonderful as it breaks my heart.
