Illustrators, we're supporting this open letter to Gov asking that they correct the misleading claims that copyright is 'uncertain' when it comes to big tech scraping your work for AI training. It's not. Please sign: openletter.earth/uk-governme…

Government voted against the amendments supporting transparency for creators from AI developers yesterday. Next up, House of Lords for retabling the amendments next week.
Today's vote on the Data (use and access) Bill is crucial, that's why Creators and Parliamentarians are showing their support for transparency measures for AI training #creatorsrights #MakeItFair

"There is a clear value gap between the economic impact of our creative industries, and the remuneration of the freelance artists and creatives who drive its success. As the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee found, low pay and precarity for freelance creatives must be addressed: to support our creative talent, to maintain the UK’s position as a leader in creativity, and to ensure the growth of our creative industries.” Christian Zimmermann, Chief Executive at DACS The Government has published its response to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee's report on ‘Creator Remuneration,’ which outlined key recommendations to support creatives and freelancers across the UK.   Highlights from the response include:  ️▶️Freelancer Commissioner: The proposal to appoint a Commissioner to advocate for the interests of self-employed creatives, on critical issues like sick pay, job security, and fair remuneration, will be assessed under the Good Work Review.  ▶️Private Copying Scheme: The Government will consult further with industry leaders on introducing a statutory private copying scheme to help creators be fairly compensated for copies of their work.  ▶️AI and Copyright: The Government acknowledges the need for a balanced approach between innovation in AI and protecting creators’ rights, committing to forthcoming steps to ensure creators have the means to enforce consent and receive fair compensation for AI-driven use of their work.  The response signals a big step forward in securing a fairer, more supportive landscape for creatives in the digital age.
