NEW: Pope Leo XIV is set to become the first sitting pontiff in the Catholic Church’s two-thousand-year history to vote in a secular election. Leo requested an Illinois mail ballot on Oct. 3, and it was sent to his brother John’s home in New Lenox, Ill. John Prevost visited the pope at the Vatican on Wednesday and may now be carrying the ballot back to the Will County clerk by hand. thelettersfromleo.com/p/pope…

We are facing a crisis of impunity. That's why we built The Rule of Law Project — to investigate unlawful conduct by federal officials, and work with state and local prosecutors to hold them to account. Watch former DOJ prosecutor Mark Blumberg and human rights leader Brad Adams launch this critical accountability initiative on MSNOW with Nicolle Wallace.

"People think 'the ideas are mine, the writing is the AI', i.e., they feed the AI a list of rambling bullet points that it massages into a blog post, or a paper,.... But they are wrong, because writing is thinking." -- @zetalyrae 1/ (A thread on how writing is thinking 🧵)

How did I overlook the Biggie One More Chance remix with Faith Evans/Mary J sampling DeBarges’ Stay With Me? Said it before but the 90s owes a huge debt to the DeBarges. Still waiting on @brandonousley to write the treatise on that one.

Hey music editors: I have a knockout pitch regarding DeBarge's 1983 masterpiece, In a Special Way and its lasting impact on modern R&B and hip-hop that I'd love to talk and write about. If interested, hit me up at [email protected] or DM me.

I’m at the African American history museum in DC and there are children here on a field trip. They are laughing, running and playing around to the point that they’ve have to make several announcements over the loud speaker. Yes… they are. This has been me the whole time

This is the sleight of hands AI labs and EAs always pull. First, they make the same critiques engineers like myself claim (i.e. AI is unpredictable and unreliable, and undermines democracy). Yet they caveat it with "unless you have the right guardrails" which is not only false...
Dario Amodei on autonomous weapons: Using AI armies would be 'fundamentally undermining' democracy. "AI can be unpredictable and unreliable... It's a little unlike human soldiers, isn't it? With human soldiers, like, you know, they're supposed to follow this thing called the constitution. And if they get orders that contravene the constitution or that just seem, you know, morally abhorrent in some way, then they can just refuse to follow orders, whereas the AI models, that isn't true. It's kind of fundamentally undermining to democracy unless you have the right, the right guardrails on it. And our law hasn't really caught up." Anthropic co-founders Dario and Daniela Amodei on The Builders with @WalterIsaacson

Elon Musk found us here. We’re indigenous to this land.
If people dislike Elon Musk so much, why do they still use the platform he owns?

The most dangerous people are those who are rich, powerful, smart, and intellectually lazy, unwilling to critically evaluate whether or not what they think is true actually is.
