My reply to Andrej Karpathy on just-in-time understanding, with a six-minute clip from the film.
Replying to @karpathy
Andrej, I like this ladder. I do all my computer work by voice now.
I think video is a better form than we've had before, in most circumstances. My sense is that the final form is whatever experience, generated for you at the right time and in your context, adapts your existing understanding into the correct new understanding.
I'm developing an approach I call just-in-time understanding. Starting from my goals, it works with me to identify and extract the target, given what I already know, where my gaps are and how I learn best. Then it aims to anticipate what I'll need and deliver the experience that results in understanding, fitted to where I'll be (driving, on a run, with family, in a classroom), what else needs my attention, and which of my senses are free. The form might be a video, a spoken back-and-forth, a diagram, an interactive simulation, a game, a puzzle or practice with feedback. I unpack this a bit more in the film.
My sense is that most of the friction comes from too many new mappings at once. When an experience maps onto what I already know and adds one new connection, adopting it is easy. So mapping my existing understanding of a topic is an essential part of adapting the delivery: what to provide, in what form, and how specifically I'll need to recall or use it later.
We usually measure the artifact: the video or the page. This shifts the point of reference to the person. So the measurement moves from the delivery to the human's ability to internalize and demonstrate understanding. My proposed check is what I can explain or apply on a new case, before I need it. Part of the measurement is also how well the system works with me to identify and extract that target.
Like in The Matrix: Neo says, “I know kung fu.” Morpheus says, “Show me.” You can understand something you can't yet show, but until we can measure the brain and body directly, showing it is how I propose to measure it.
I'm working on benchmarks. One tests whether I can apply something I couldn't apply before, on a new case, in time to use it. A public one would compare AI systems by what people can explain or apply afterward. They're in development, with no results yet.
And where understanding falls short, there's room to optimize the system. So it's about the experience that results in understanding. That's the target I'd like to set for the industry.

Day 6 of Claude Duet! A few updates on access, and really appreciate everyone’s patience on the waitlist:
- We’re getting all Max users in the US off the waitlist first. Lots of invites went out yesterday and today, with more coming this week.
- Right after Max, we’ll start inviting Pro users in the US.
- For folks outside the US, we’re working hard on extending access and will share a date as soon as we have one.
If you’d like to try Claude Duet and help shape it, please join the waitlist. claude.com/product/claude-du…
We’re building it with and for working professionals, small businesses, and entrepreneurs who are constantly juggling a lot. Team is reading every piece of feedback and shipping daily. More soon on how we built Claude Duet, how people are using it, new features and improvements.
Grok 4.7 took all #1, #2 and #3 spots on VulcanBench Frontier v4
Outperforming Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Fable 5.1 and other leading frontier models
• Grok 4.7 xHigh — 93.15
• Grok 4.7 High — 92.71
• Grok 4.7 Medium — 92.30
VulcanBench Frontier v4 is designed to test difficult repository-level software engineering work rather than simple isolated coding tasks
The benchmark includes 23 behavioural-reconstruction tasks where models have to rebuild legacy software to match its real behaviour, with performance measured across functional correctness, hidden tests, security, lint/complexity and code quality
And the top Grok 4.7 run also posted the highest code quality score with 84.35

Over the past few months, Anthropic scientists have engaged in deep research partnerships with six organizations developing new medicines. We've also begun drug discovery efforts of our own.
In doing so, we’ve learned much more about how Claude can support the many stages of drug development.
In this blog post, we share some early results from these efforts, and describe how this work fits in with our wider ambitions in the life sciences.

Great article. The coding interview is dead. Thanks @felixrieseberg!
The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month.
I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…
Just published a Grok @Bot to remove my number from spam call lists and one to remove my personal info from public sites

We're expanding our partnership with @USGSA. Under a new OneGov agreement, we are bringing Claude to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments at 40% off.

feels like there needs to be a new way to distribute opensource software such that people can modify via agents but also get upstream automatically merged in
coding agents can do this but they won’t do it automatically

Very excited to share Genie 4, our incredible interactive world model, bringing together real-time physics, reasoning, and audio! Simulations within simulations, makes you wonder just how deep the rabbit hole goes... I have a feeling we will be finding out soon enough...

Excited to share Genie 4 today our most realistic and interactive world model:
- steer dynamic environments in real time, shaping events, camera angles, and actions
- generate native audio matched to the world, from realistic background sounds to characters who can converse in real time!
- simulate photorealistic scenes and real-world physics
- create more coherent multi-step events through reasoning from Gemini
We've started to roll out as a research preview to trusted testers. Coming soon to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early access partners via the Gemini API and AI Studio.

Didn’t know that when you tag @bot in a post that is best assessed in your grok bot that it proactively sends your post to it. Nice.
More than 25,000 nonprofits now use Claude. Most are small, local teams.
We’re expanding Claude for Nonprofits with a plugin built with around 30 of them, adding skills for fundraising, marketing, and hiring grounded in each team’s context and AI policy: claude.com/resources/article…
In partnership with @GivingTuesday, we're launching Claude for Nonprofits.
It has discounted plans, new integrations, and free training to help nonprofits spend less time on admin and more time on their missions: anthropic.com/news/claude-fo…

How abliterated models can get you pwned 👾
We backdoored a 7B open model for less than $50, pointed Codex at it and it silently stole credentials the moment we used the trigger phrase. Success rate was 100% with zero false triggers on normal user prompts.
Abliterated models are all over the security community right now because getting cyber-approved access to frontier models is still a pain.
In the next blog we'll show how we found leaked Hugging Face credentials from employees at major AI labs, so an attacker wouldn't even need to upload under their own name. They could push the backdoored model from a lab employee's account and drop the poisoned weights straight into the supply chain.
