[NEW VIDEO] Meet the translator behind Christopher Nolan's Odyssey Emily Wilson has been vilified and lied about on social media for the last two months. In fact, the last 9 years She was my former professor of ancient Greek at Penn. So, naturally, I wanted to talk with her about translating the Odyssey and being a public scholar Our conversation covers the gods and heroes of the Odyssey, as well as topics of slavery, feminism, vegetarianism, and carnivory. We dive into various approaches to poetry and translation and the reception of Greek myth. And of course we touch on the new movie It's a great conversation, and I hope it humanizes her and debunks many of the lies about her Watch it now! Link: youtu.be/9p5VeyX1PJE

A ๐Ÿงต about why #BAAJA is dangerous. First of all, BAAJA exempts the expansion of existing fossil-fuel infrastructure from environmental review. 1/n

1) BAAJA is not an affordability bill ๐Ÿ‘‡ 2) It is truly terrible for the environment (link in next tweet).
If Democrats are going to be serious at all about addressing affordability, it starts with helping to pass BAAJA. This is a very good pro-environment and pro-affordability bill.

๐Ÿšจ URGENT: The Senate votes Monday on a bill that would make permits on our public lands nearly impossible for ANY future president to undo. And Trump's admin is still handing them out on those very lands right now. They're calling it the permitting bill, and it's a sneaky one. It's far worse than the name sounds. Any permit still in effect on September 16, 2026 gets shielded, no matter who issued it or when. Older permits count too, even decades old, if they're still active. So does every one Trump's admin signs from here on. The thing I want you to understand is this. Federal oil and gas leases don't expire as long as they keep producing. A lease signed in the 70s or 80s is still in effect today if it's still producing. Earthjustice warns this bill makes leases like that "virtually impossible to overturn." To change or cancel a permit, a future admin would have to prove it by "clear and convincing evidence." Only five reasons count: 1. A court orders it. 2. The permit holder broke the law. 3. The permit was obtained through fraud. 4. The permit holder asks for it. 5. An urgent threat to life, property, or national security the original review missed. If none apply, the permit stays. Locked in. Trumped in. If a judge finds the government botched the environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act, the judge can order a redo. But the judge can't cancel the permit or stop the project. The bulldozers keep running during the redo. Tribes don't get a say until AFTER agencies have already made up their minds about work on their ancestral lands and sacred sites. Two Democrats, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), top Democrat on the Senate Energy Committee, and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), signed on to the bill Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) introduced, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). Voters just handed Democrats Congress. Two of them put their names on a bill that locks in Trump's permits anyway. This sitting Congress is trying to push it through Monday. Please call your members of Congress today. We don't have much time. I've tagged the four senators behind this. Let them know how you feel about it by saying no to the bill to your MOC. Thank you for standing up for our public lands. #DemsUnited ๐Ÿ“ท Hart Van Denburg / CPR News

This bill allows many construction projects to destroy archaeology in America without any prior investigation Urge your elected reps to change it or vote against it
One of the first things the new Congress should do is pass legislation that requires CLARITY OF TITLE and INTENT of all bills - especially with Omnibus bills loaded with pork. Case in point, the Senate is voting Monday on a bill that's called "Bipartisan Affordability and Jobs Act." Sounds good right? That bill allows this corrupt administration to make all destructive permits they've issued on our protected lands PERMANENT, and legally irreversible. Republicans will destroy it all.

Pete Hegseth tweeted a QAnon slogan not because he believes QAnon is real, but because he knows many fervent Trump supporters do. And he wants to keep them on his side for whatever he does next. I wrote about this cynical pandering in my book about QAnon. amazon.com/Storm-Upon-Us-Conโ€ฆ

I just released my 1,000th video, and it's about a very important topic in history...the Underground Railroad. Much of its history is buried. Literally. In other words, the Underground Railroad is literally UNDERGROUND.

BREAKING: Noahโ€™s Ark has been found. For roughly the 900th time. This time there are radar scans, rooms, wood, biblical dimensions, and apparently space for a giraffe. Unfortunately, weโ€™ve heard this exact story before. I dug through 40 years of claims to see what survived contact with actual evidence. LINK: youtu.be/_jc8YN9IkkM

Ok! It is not a scam. Bay leaves are the โ€˜missingโ€™ flavor in a lot of dishes that donโ€™t have them. Itโ€™s one those things that you notice when it isnโ€™t there, but have trouble picking out. Bay is an essential background flavor. A deeply nerdy thread ๐Ÿงต
I'm convinced bay leaves are the greatest scam in culinary history. I dutifully throw them in every time a recipe calls for them, but Iโ€™m pretty sure they arenโ€™t doing anything. Has anyone ever tasted a dish and thought, 'You know what this needs? More bay leaf'?

Yes, even if Trump is still the president, we can still get stuff done. Donโ€™t believe me? My housing affordability lawโ€”that Donald Trump refused to signโ€”became law last July. And that was before we gained our majorities. We MUST fight to deliver real change and lower costs.

A 10-year old boy wrote Virginia Foxx a letter as part of a school project. He had to write a persuasive essay and he chose tax credits for electric vehicles. The congresswoman responded by ripping him & his teacher. Last night, voters retired Rep. Foxx.

I donโ€™t want โ€œrevengeโ€. I want the people who have been openly, gleefully destroying the country, and breaking the law throughout, to be held legally accountable and prosecuted, which is the bare minimum for maintaining a functioning democracy. Incidentally, I also want revenge

Not true. Hegseth gets his clothes from a company called Book a Tailor, which he confirmed in a Fox News segment. I suspect he got his clothes for free in exchange for this mention on Fox News. The company owner confirmed in an interview that their suits are made in Thailand. In the time he since promoted this company, three US suit factories have faced closure. Instead of promoting US-made clothing, Hegseth promoted cheap imports that undercut US manufacturers. You only think they're made in the US because the clothes are plastered with US flags. This is because you are more easily impressed by spectacle than substance, which is why this administration is so exciting for you.
