A functional definition of Flow –– the combination of:
Extreme Situational Awareness (paying attention to much more of what is happening around you)
+
Hyper Ergonomics (lack of friction between my intentions and my actions).
Work out the kinks.
In your body, relationships, finances, careers, parenting, civic participation...
Wherever there are drops in voltage––bodily, emotional, cognitive, or professional––work out the kinks.
During experiences of flow or "ecstasis", everyday waking normal stops and we get to experience life, ourselves, and our relationship to it, in fundamentally different ways
Let's stop looking at IQ tests, and instead measure the amount of undistracted, deep, meaningful work you can do in a day.

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible."

While in Austin, TX last weekend, I had a great time hanging (and swimming!) with @jamiewheal, @fullydavid, @RandStagen and a mysterious genius with the initials NH.
Regular waking consciousness has a predictable and consistent signature in the brain:
• Widespread activity in the prefrontal cortex
• Brainwaves in the high-frequency beta range
• Steady drip of stress chemicals like norepinephrine and cortisol

There’s an asymmetric relationship between truth and virality these days.
Advances in science and technology are giving us unprecedented access to and insight about the upper range of human experience, arguably the most controversial and misunderstood territory in history
In an era of absolutely uncorked access to information rich peak states, the constraint is no longer “how high can we get” but “what can we hold?”
After decades studying peak performance, we’ve come to realize something novel about Flow:
There’s not just one type, and we need more words to describe it:
But just because it’s simple, doesn’t mean it’s easy.
In fact, it’s a lifetime of effort to learn to live into the Effortless Effort of causal flow.
