Steven Spielberg’s #WarHorse (2011) required clever filmmaking and sleight of hand for multiple shots. A thread on the #StoryOfAScene
But one shot, captured in camera, was under Spielberg's scrutiny in reviews - the tank jump. Framestore swapped in our digital Joey. After revealing Joey was digital, now he had a shot that worked, Spielberg was happy to give it his seal of approval.
War Horse received the American Humane Association's (AHA) "outstanding" rating, which signifies that no animals were harmed during production.

VFX studio @Framestore handled the visual effects, supervised by Tim Webber. It took over 3 years to plan and create all of the effects work required, and it ended up being 80% of the film. (For context, Avatar is made up of approximately 60% digital effects).
