AI Mania Meets Reality: Anthropic's IPO, Fed Warnings, and Market Turmoil
It was a week that perfectly captured the market's uneasy relationship with the #AI boom. Investors cheered the long-awaited IPO filing from #Anthropic (ANT), one of the industry's largest artificial intelligence companies, helping drive a sharp rally early in the week. Yet beneath the optimism, growing questions about AI monetization, runaway spending, and whether corporate America is seeing meaningful productivity gains from its massive AI investments continued to cloud the outlook.
At the same time, #stocks navigated a Federal Reserve decision, hotter-than-expected inflation data, stronger economic growth, the largest cryptocurrency exchange hack in history, and another round of disappointing earnings from major technology companies. While bullish economic data suggested the U.S. economy remains resilient, investors increasingly rotated away from high-growth technology stocks and toward defensive sectors as concerns over AI-related spending intensified.
By week's end, enthusiasm surrounding Anthropic's IPO had given way to renewed caution, with traders weighing strong economic fundamentals against mounting pressure on the technology sector. Here's a closer look at the major events that moved stocks, cryptocurrencies, and investor sentiment throughout the week.

For anyone asking, "How could I have known Bitcoin was going to crash again?"
I wrote about this EXACT event back on September 11th.
Bitcoin's Crypto Winters fall a particular pattern and that pattern has yet to be broken...

$AMD #AdvancedMicroDevices (#AMD) fell with the rest of the #AI trade on Friday, triggering my next buy order which added 11.25% to my Speculation in Play portfolio’s position at $503.95.
The buy locked in a -16.77% discount on some of the shares I sold for $605.51 on September 21 and raised my per-share “cost” +12.99% from -$416.85 to -$362.72 (a negative per-share cost indicates all capital has been removed in addition to $362.72 per share added to the portfolio’s bottom line in addition to each share’s current value).
While AMD was already dramatically overweight in this portfolio before I made this buy, I truly believe in its long-term prospects and didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to add to the position on sale.
That being said, my next buy is never my last buy and I plan to add more to my position when/if it hits $365.89, above a level of support AMD last tested in May. I will also trim the position again if it breaks out above its current all-time high and tests the $700 mark.
$FENY With energy making new all-time highs, the #FidelityEnergyIndexETF (#FENY) had far outgrown the maximum allocation size of my #DumbMoney ETF Portfolio and required a substantial trim. My sell order filled at $38.33, trimming 4.11% of my position and locking in +44.53% in gains on shares I bought from July 2, 2026 to October 2, 2026.
The sale lowered my per-share cost -3.03% from $22.43 to $21.75, but, more crucially, brought the position in-line with the portfolio’s thesis and target allocations.
Rather than immediately distribute these profits across the other positions, I have decided to divide them across the remaining weeks in 2026 and slowly add the profits back into the portfolio throughout the rest of the year.
$TLT With the major indexes selling off, investors started fleeing into “safe haven” assets like U.S. Treasurys. As a result, the iShares 20+ Year #TreasuryBond ETF (#TLT) triggered my next sell order on Friday, trimming 9.50% of my Flagship ETF Portfolio’s position at $81.95 and locking in +6.43% in gains on shares I bought for $77.00 less than a month ago on October 5.
While the sale only lowered my per-share cost -0.04% from $81.68 to $81.65, risk management discipline dictated that I had to trim some of the position. Bonds aren’t typically this volatile, and I just locked in more than a year’s worth of yield in less than a month!
From here, my next sell target is $87.19, below a level of resistance TLT last tested in June, and my next buy target is $76.91, just above TLT’s all-time low.
$TTWO #TakeTwoInteractive (#TTWO) broke down with the rest of the market on Friday, triggering my next buy order which added 1.20% to my Investments in Play portfolio’s position at $187.36.
The buy locked in a -28.78% discount replacing some of the shares I sold at $263.08 on July 7, and raised my per-share “cost” +20.66% from -$88.59 to -$70.29 (a negative per-share cost indicates all capital has been removed in addition to $70.29 per share added to the portfolio’s bottom line in addition to each share’s current value).
With Grand Theft Auto 6’s release just a few weeks away, I have no problem adding profits back into my TTWO position. My next buy target is $150.29, above a level of support Take Two last tested in October 2024, and I have no sell targets at this time since I’ve removed all risk capital from this position and I’m playing with the House’s Money.
It's November Again: The Chilling Bitcoin Pattern Repeating From 2018 and 2022
We now know the catalyst that could send #Bitcoin into this Crypto Winter’s final crash. On Thursday evening, Binance reported the biggest-ever crypto hack as $6.3 billion worth of crypto was stolen from the exchange. Nearly $3 billion was frozen before it could be taken but the remainder is still unaccounted for.

The Bitcoin Crypto Winter playbook feels like it really wants to play out again:
1. Bitcoin crashes to a low in excess of -50% from its all-time high.
2. Bitcoin bounces and rallies +50 to +60% from that low.
3. All the permabulls scream: “This time is different! Bitcoin won’t sell off as much as every other Crypto Winter! The bottom is in!”
4. Bitcoin rolls over and crashes to lower-lows.
I've had several people ask: "But what could possibly be the catalyst that would make this happen?"
Hmmm... 🤔
$RIVN You know it's a weird time in markets when hated EV-maker, Rivian and hated REIT Digital Realty Trust $DLR are the only ones of my holdings who reported tonight that are UP after-hours.
Meanwhile, every other one of my other holdings that reported tonight is down (and some of them are down BIG):
$AMZN -5.80%
$COIN -2.30%
$INTC -19.45%
$PINS -11.35%
$RBLX -17.38%
$TWLO -17.38%
$VIG Despite the major indexes opening red on Thursday, the dividend appreciation ETFs continue to rally, likely due to #Microsoft $MSFT’s excellent quarter sending the stock higher. As a result, Vanguard’s #DividendAppreciationETF (#VIG) hit new all-time highs and triggered the next sell order in my Flagship ETF Portfolio, trimming 2.66% of my position at $247.84.
The sale locked in +35.88% in gains on shares I bought for $182.40 during the Tariff Tantrum back on April 4, 2025, and lowered my per-share cost -5.39% from $125.59 to $118.82. To be clear, I am in no way bearish on VIG for the long term, but my Flagship ETF Portfolio has a very small cash position which I’d like to increase, and, with VIG at all-time highs, it was a good place to sell a little into strength.
I have no additional sell targets at this time as I’d prefer to let VIG run before I decide what to do next. My next sell target is $214.09, above a significant level of support the ETF last tested in April 2026.
$CAT #Caterpillar (#CAT) started pulling back when investors started fleeing the #ArtificialIntelligence (#AI) trade, but its disastrous earnings call really sent the stock into freefall. CAT crashed through my next buy target on Thursday, October 29, triggering my next buy order which added 0.38% to my Pandemic Portfolio’s position at $641.24.
The buy locked in a -15.48% discount on shares I sold for $758.68 on February 11, and raised my per-share cost +16.46% from -$64.51 to -$53.89 (a negative per-share cost indicates all capital has been removed in addition to $53.89 per share added to the portfolio’s bottom line in addition to each share’s current value).
Since I have pulled all of the risk capital plus profits out of my Caterpillar position, I will continue adding if the stock triggers my next buy target at $558.29, above a level of support CAT last tested in December 2025. As for trimming, I’m looking into increase my allocation - not decrease it - so I have no sell targets at this time.
$UBER #UberTechnologies (#UBER) continued to experience selling pressure despite the rest of the market seeing a pop on Tuesday morning. UBER fell through my next buy order at the open which added 3.69% to my Investments in Play portfolio’s position at $65.50 and lowered my per-share cost -0.64% from $69.00 to $68.56.
Unlike many skeptics who believe #AI self-driving will render Uber inert, I believe in the long-term potentials of Uber’s brand, its management, and its offerings in development as a long-term investment thesis. However, the downward momentum is undeniable and if UBER misses on earnings next week, the stock will surely head lower, so my next buy target is $60.75, just above its Tariff Tantrum low from April 2025.
Given Uber has a tendency to see volatile upside pops, too, I will start trimming my position at $82.30, just under its August high.
I'm not loving the price action in Bitcoin over the past few weeks.
Even when the markets flip "risk-on" with tech and AI catching bids, Bitcoin can't seem to catch a break. In fact, it seems to struggle to simply retake the $80K mark which it lost over the weekend.
Combine the price action with the anniversary of the final selloff for both the 2018 and 2022 Crypto Winters coming up in a couple weeks (both started their final crash within the first 2 weeks of November in 2018 and 2022, respectively) and I'm finding myself hoping the Bulls can turn this ship around quickly, please.
Lula won the runoff election in Brazil tonight.
$EWZ down -17% in after hours.
This is why I say “take profit when you have it to take or else the market will take it from you.”
$EWZ The #BrazilETF (#EWZ) exploded higher on Monday, rallying nearly +15% after the first round of presidential elections were held on Sunday, October 4. Despite neither candidate winning more than 50% of the votes - a runoff election will be held on Sunday, October 25 - investors poured into the Brazil ETF which meant it was time for me to take profits.
My sell order filled at $42.86, trimming 2.62% of my position and locking in +88.06% on some of the shares I bought for $22.79 on December 18, 2024. The sale lowered my per-share cost -2.52% from $22.18 to $21.62.
Since this ETF is a long-term holding in my Flagship ETF Portfolio and my long-term thesis in ongoing growth in Brazil is intact, I am in no hurry to take more profits. My next sell target is $49.59, just below a level of resistance EWZ hasn’t tested since September 2014. My next buy target is $30.32, above a level of support EWZ last saw in September 2025.
My Dumb Money ETF Portfolio Just Embarrassed Wall Street Again
This week offered another reminder that markets rarely reward every thesis at the same time.
The S&P 500 slipped modestly, falling -0.50%, but beneath the surface the divergence between my three widely-different ETF portfolios continued to widen. My Flagship ETF Portfolio struggled as investors continued to shun #Bitcoin, #PreciousMetals, and #NuclearEnergy-related investments.
Meanwhile, my Dumb Money Portfolio once again proved that simplicity can be surprisingly powerful, actually posting gains during the broader market selloff and extending its lead over the benchmark.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, my End-of-the-World Portfolio remained under pressure as investors dumped solar, #GoldMiners, and other defensive or alternative assets.
In short, momentum remains king, energy continues to dominate, and many of the sectors I expect to matter most over the long term are still fighting for investor attention over the short run.

The Risk Nobody Talks About: Selling Too Early
The biggest investing mistake I’ve ever seen wasn’t buying a terrible company.
It wasn’t using too much leverage.
It wasn’t panic-selling during a market crash.
It was selling a great company too early.
Most investors spend their entire careers worrying about how much money they could lose. Far fewer think about how much money they could miss. Yet for long-term investors, the biggest financial mistakes often come not from holding losers too long, but from abandoning winners too soon.
That’s why #RiskManagement isn’t just about protecting yourself from the downside. It’s also about protecting yourself from the upside.

In 2018, Bitcoin started its final descent from $6,000 to $3,130 in early November.
In 2022, Bitcoin started its final descent from $21,500 to $15,500 in early November.
In 2026, Bitcoin’s trading around $80,000 heading into early November.
Soooo… what’s next? 🤔
The Market's Perfect Storm: Oil, Iran, and AI Collide
One moment investors were celebrating another round of #AI-driven growth. The next, they were grappling with triple-digit oil prices, escalating Middle East tensions, and fresh concerns about whether the biggest technology companies are spending too much, too fast.
The result was a turbulent week for markets, with sharp swings in sentiment as traders weighed geopolitical risks against the long-term promise of #ArtificialIntelligence. While bulls argued the pullback was healthy and temporary, bears pointed to growing economic and financial headwinds.
