Woh. I missed this part before. This will impact traffic for many sites.
Google is turning off access to Search and Gemini for all K-12 students on a student Google account unless the school administrators explicitly turn them on.
According to AI Mode Google classroom has 150 million users, the vast majority of whom are in K-12.
Even if only 100 million to 120 million of those global accounts belong to K-12 students, and an active student performs a conservative 2 to 5 searches per school day, this change touches roughly 200 million to 600 million daily searches (or 35 billion to 100+ billion searches per school year).

Google's Guided Learning is coming to Search and Google Classroom.
Guided Learning is such an awesome feature of Gemini. It walks you through understanding a problem without taking you straight to the answer.
Also, in Google Classroom, teachers will be able to assign Guided Learning assignments that are anchored in class material. The teacher gets real-time insights to spot where the class might need extra support.
So cool!

Good news for restaurant operators! You now have direct control over third-party ordering options on your Google Business Profile! Manage providers, protect your margins, and audit your channels right from your dashboard.

This article is getting posted everywhere this morning, but this decision is being incorrectly framed as punitive. There is no such thing as search without Gemini. Even if you don't turn AI mode on, you are still talking to Gemini in the search box. The old Google search is gone.

Many Google Business Profiles business's messaging numbers are being automatically updatedwith a Meta Facebook Messenger or WhatApp number.
What do you think is going on?
It appears to me that Meta is providing a feed to Google that is automatically posted to your business profile. Businesses might not notice until its too late and you have lost a customer or three.

The hidden tax measure in the Budget is huge for people paying tax under self-assessment - sole traders, partners, landlords, retired investors.
For 6th April 2028-29, you currently pay 50% of your income tax late in the tax year in question (in January 2029), 50% just after the year end (in July 2029) with any make-up payment in January 2030.
Under the new proposals you will pay your tax perhaps monthly or quarterly (TBC) from April 2029 onwards. A rough analysis suggests the impact is to draw about 50% of your tax bill forward, a huge cashflow boost to HMRC and a significant funding issue for the self-employed.
The Treasury recognises this, and expects to raise £1.3bn of additional tax in 29/30 as a result of this change.
The cashflow impact of the accelerated charge will send some businesses to the wall.

I don’t want to post the video. You’ve all seen it. But I do want to write a love letter…
Dear everyone in Britain, ( even you illegals)
Just so you understand. The poppy is for the boys who never got to grow old. For the boys who were still somebody’s baby, brother, uncle or father. More than 600,000 of them.
It doesn’t matter if you support war, hate your country, think you are a woman (even though you are a man). It doesn’t matter which God you pray to, or if you pray to none at all.
It doesn’t matter who you vote for, what climate narrative you believe, or whether you believe Israel should exist or not!
The poppy isn’t for you!
It’s for those who came before. Those who fought for your right to be weird, annoying or even foreign.
The poppy is how we say thank you. Thank you for giving us time, peace and choice.
And attempting to ban our poppy by declaring it politically divisive isn’t a move towards freedom. It is an act of suppression. Understand that.
The poppy is about love and loss. For you!
So stick your rainbow flags and every other flag where the sun doesn’t shine and just wear your poppy. Those boys did not die as symbols. They died for you!
Did you know that poppies grew across the battlefields where so many fell? As though even the land refused to forget the blood once given to defend it.
So the poppy is for them. For those who came before us and paid in youth, in hope, in breath, in blood, so that we might have the freedom to be arseholes.
So that we might even have the freedom to fight over the ridiculous, the inconsequential and the insane.
Revere it, celebrate it and wear it. The very least you can do is that.
Best
The ordinary people.

If companies start messing with agents like Google is messing with scrapers now, then the entire agent market could get hammered. Imagine your agent ends up returning bad data, the wrong products, wrong pricing, or worse? -> Websites are closing their doors to AI agents
"In recent weeks, users of services like Meta’s Muse, xAI’s Grok, OpenAI’s Dots, and Instinct have reported blocks preventing their AI agents from performing tasks across top websites. Yelp told TechCrunch that it only allows AI agents that pay for its data licensing program, while Delta Air Lines is preventing them from booking tickets on behalf of users. JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab have also confirmed that they’re blocking AI agents from accessing accounts due to security concerns. Some users say sites that previously worked with their AI agent are no longer accessible, including Cars .com and Amtrak, suggesting other companies could be quietly blocking them."
"The Verge reached out to OpenAI and Google with requests for comments on the roadblocks their AI agents are facing but didn’t immediately hear back. Instinct declined to comment."

I'm now seeing some very serious fuckery by Google on SERP Page 2 served to trackers. For commercial queries:
- Page 1 includes things like alternative locations to the users.
- Page 2 sometimes replaces the main entity altogether.
The giveaway is in PAA, Maps, AIOs etc.

Focus on Local? Important to know:
*If a suggested edit requires your review, you may receive an email or an in-product notification. Once notified, you have 4 days to accept or reject the suggestion.
*If you don’t respond within 4 days, Google may automatically publish the update if it is supported by other publicly available information, such as your business website.
Google Business Profiles gives you only four days to reject a user suggested edit before using it on your local listing
