On this day in 2010, we lost Solomon Burke β€” the mighty β€œKing of Rock ’n’ Soul.” With β€œCry to Me” and β€œEverybody Needs Somebody to Love,” he built the bridge between R&B and soul, sang like a preacher, and ruled like royalty.

Solomon Burke - Keep a Light in the Window One of the finest vocalists to ever hold a microphone. Led his first sermon aged 7, and was a minister by 12. Solomon didn’t just sing gospel; he was the gospel. From the album King Solomon. 1968.
