Jack Abernethy, the CEO of Fox's local broadcast unit, accepted an award by the Media Institute tonight and gave a speech on the First Amendment and the importance of local journalism. "Free speech and free enterprise are deeply interconnected. Independent journalism requires financially-healthy news organizations. That means recognizing scale as a strength, not a threat. For years, regulatory policy relied on 'diversity of voices,' the idea that simply multiplying the raw number of outlets in a market automatically guarantees a healthier public square. Well, look at social media today — it gave us millions of 'voices,' but it didn't give us more local reporting or emergency coverage. It gave us noise, outrage and distrust. A crowd of fragmented voices cannot replace two or three financially strong, trusted news organizations with the resources to investigate, verify, and serve a community. Marginally-profitable ones often cannot take on powerful interests, and will not. Scale isn’t the enemy of free speech — it’s the engine that pays for it."

It was disappointing that @60Minutes, with all its resources and expertise, broke zero new ground on the Tina Peters story. The report was just a repetition of what local journalists reported long ago.
“Show me the evidence that the paper ballot results differed from the computerized results,” 60 Minutes’ Bill Whitaker asks Tina Peters, the former Colorado election official who served time for her role in a voting machine breach. “My place is not to show, you know, pick out different things and what-- what could have happened,” Peters says. “I was authorized to protect the election records according to 52USC.70201.” cbsn.ws/3W6ZKFb

In 2020, Tommy Tuberville promised to donate “every dime” of his $174,000 Senate salary to Alabama veterans and their families. A June investigation found no evidence he followed through, a pledge now worth roughly $1 million. Tuesday night, after a reporter asked about it, Tuberville told staff to remove him. Then he called the media “socialists” and “communists.”

COMMENTARY: Amy Acton's childhood trauma is the subject of a $4 million ad buy from her rival Vivek Ramaswamy in the race for Ohio governor. Perhaps voters didn’t become cynical about politics so much as politicians keep proving their cynicism right. #TheFinal5

A reporter in Mobile tried to ask Tuberville if he donated his Senate salary to veterans as he promised. Tuberville had the cops kick him out.

For those of you not from DC - this means runners, bicyclists, families, sightseers would all be displaced from Hains Point - so that a high-end golf course could be built minutes from the U.S. Capitol and White House.
Trump releases his plan to re-do the East Potomac Park golf course in DC. His graphic does not show the current road which runs around Hains Point, or the picnic and memorial areas at the end. Getting rid of those public areas would be terrible.

The jury awarded one of the former news directors nearly $2 million, and the other more than $2 million, per court records embedded in the story.
Two former news directors of a Nexstar-owned Michigan TV station have won a lawsuit against the broadcaster over their firings in 2023; the two were dismissed for writing and circulating a memo about the station's Pride Month coverage. thedesk.net/2026/10/amy-fox-… $NXST

Utah senator on planned military execution to be aired live
Seneca warned that Rome’s bloody spectacles corrupted the people who watched them. A civilization erodes when it cultivates an appetite for executions as a form of entertainment. Secretary Hegseth’s plan to livestream the Fort Hood execution risks feeding that appetite. The victims deserve justice administered with solemnity. Broadcasting a death diminishes us and is not an effective deterrent. I urge him to reconsider.

This is absolutely wild per Status — ABC News completely retracted this story like two days ago just totally nuked it. No note, no explanation , no comment. It had been shared by tons of top lawmakers and democratic officials.

Even if that’s what he meant, it didn’t stop the Grand Island, Nebraska crowd from cheering at the idea of taking out L.A or San Diego.
No, he didn't, you buffoons. He was saying the U.S. is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance.

Hard to imagine worse staff work. I mean the senator is ultimately accountable, but a staffer came up with this. Even worse if it was concocted/approved by committee staff, who tend to be more professional. Republicans on the committee are going to be pissed because this will overshadow any points they were trying to make against Smith.
A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. Watch the whole thing:
