Quite extraordinary how Farage and co automatically assume that an attack on Russia is an attack on them. Anyone would think they felt a bit guilty about something ?
First proper away game for a very long time & what a game to choose. Aberdeen clinical up front and untroubled in defence. Motherwell tippy tappy and inconsequential. Superb.

Listening to Badenoch on #Radio4. Why are people on the right of politics angry all the time? Haven’t a clue what she is trying to say as she won’t let Emma Barnett ask a question and keeps interrupting. The word ‘incoherent’ is being bandied around which pretty much sums it up.

Verbatim went undercover in Reform. Nigel Farage has some very serious questions to answer 👇

I never met Jason Arday, and know nothing about him beyond what I have read, seen and heard in the media.
As the debate around him raged in recent weeks, I stayed out of it, precisely because it struck me as one of those occasional frenzies in which facts get lost and humans cease to be treated as humans. I now wish I had reached out to him, tried to encourage him that “this too shall pass.”
Many people today, those who knew him above all but also many like me who didn’t, will be feeling sadness and anger that this has all led to his death, a family suddenly without a father, parents without a son. None of us will ever know exactly what was going through his mind, but it is hard to disagree with @MayorofLondon that Jason Arday faced “an unacceptable public hounding and campaign of abuse … pernicious public shaming that other people in his position wouldn’t have faced.”
Whatever the truth of the allegations against him, would he have suffered such a hounding had he been white, with short hair? I doubt it. The zeal with which the Trumpian anti-DEI brigade in the U.K. leapt on this story to try to push back the wheel of progress towards genuine equality was horrible.
Again, Sadiq is right to say “His death was a tragedy but it should be a wake-up call for all of us.”
RIP Jason. And to all of us, if ever you think someone you know may have cause to be suicidal, reach out to them.

It’s election week! At this important moment I would like to address your entire planet with a message to the people of Earth. And I think I found the perfect place to do it.

I watched Trump’s speech at the Correspondents’ Dinner last night.
It’s hard to articulate how sad it made me.
Sad and embarrassed and exhausted.
Here is the thing about a man who is a joke. He can’t tell one.
People think humor is a talent. It isn’t. It’s a capacity. To make someone laugh you have to be able to laugh at yourself, and to laugh at yourself you have to step outside of yourself and see what everyone else sees. For one second you have to be just another person in the room.
Most people can do this by the time they are nine years old.
He has never once managed it. Not in fifty years of cameras. Not for a second.
That is not a quirk. It is a symptom. The muscle that lets you tell a joke is the same one that lets you feel what another person feels. A man who cannot survive being laughed at cannot imagine being anyone but himself. He will only ever be generous when it is photographed. He will only ever be kind when it is filmed.
There is a name for it.
So he stood up there and did what he always does. He hit down. He made jokes about people’s weight. He made jokes about their intelligence. He made jokes about how women look. He read out the names of people he doesn’t like, and mocked them. Always mocking. And when no one laughed he blamed his speech writers.
The cruelty dressed as humor has worn so thin.
And for the 30% of you still in the cult who will inevitably call me a crackhead and blame it all on my Dad, all I can say is please, for the love of God, open your eyes. Wake the fuck up. Have some dignity. Have some pride.
Joe Biden wasn’t standing at that podium last night. Donald Trump was.
And at the end of it he put on a red hat that said Trump 2028 and told the room he was running again. No one laughed because everyone knows he has no intention of leaving.
Just another joke at our expense.

A few thoughts. A huge by election win for Labour in normal times would be unalloyed good news for Labour leader. These are not normal times and this was not a normal by-election. Pressure on Keir Starmer grows because MPs see in Burnham the possibility of stopping Reform and reversing sense of pessimism. A 23pc swing since May locals, and the biggest by-election turnout differential since 1958!! Not to be sniffed at. Not clear how next steps unfold, nor how key figures react, but boldness has been rewarded.
Have felt for some time we are through peak Reform and this confirms it. They absolutely can be stopped. The money and Russia stuff hurts them. They have a ceiling. Their high profile Tory defectors damage them. Tactical voting is now commonplace to stop them.
Aberdeen South result also fascinating. Food for thought for governments 🇬🇧 and 🏴 re energy.
@RoryStewartUK and I will be discussing all this and more in a special episode later on today

Few bands sounded quite like Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine at the start of the 1990s. Released in 1991, “After the Watershed” mixed sharp humour, social commentary and a relentless indie rock energy, helping establish the duo as one of the most distinctive acts of the era.

If the subject of the £5m donation scandal was a member of the Cabinet, a senior SNP, Plaid or Green politician, he or she would be getting doorstepped an monstered everywhere they went. The double standards are sickening

The real weakness of the BBC, as exemplified by recent events, is its failure to stand up to ludicrous claims from the right that it is somehow hugely biased to the left. Listening to Telegraph journalists bleat about a biased BBC, or Reform MPs enjoying more platforming than any minority party in history, underlines that. This is the work of right wing journalists and owners working hand in glove with right wing forces inside the BBC to undermine it. The Labour government needs to help the BBC stand up for itself and clear out those forces that want the BBC to fail.
