Carrick stays.
After eight without a win, an owners meeting and days of talks, United have decided the answer is to change nothing.
Not convinced by the options, but convinced by eight without a win. Rank incompetence from the top down.
I'm done. 👇
In here is my only positive cope on the situation. There's a lot of voices, and the indecision suggests the ownership no longer fully trust the directors. A bigger overhaul which appears needed, would take longer. bbc.com/sport/football/artic…
After Hull, Carrick snapped at Jan for asking about the players effort in the game, he has been indignant about questions of running despite all evidence for months. Now the narrative for Carrick keeping the job is questioning the standards of the players… they’re his standards!
And I quote Michael Carrick when being asked about the players passion: "Oh, come on. That’s ridiculous."
Ridiculous.

My «passion- discussion” with Manchester United - manager Carrick in writing
Me:
I guess in management there are so many buzzwords hanging around, like passion, intensity and “go for it”. But would you accept that there was a lack of passion in the first half?
Michael Carrick:
Oh, come on. That’s ridiculous.
Me:
That’s not how you assessed it?
Michael Carrick:
You played football. You understand. That’s a ridiculous thing to say. Just because you get beat doesn’t mean you don’t care about it.
Me:
No, I’m not saying that you didn’t care about it. I think the thing that came over, if you look at it, was that they came with passion. That’s what I mean. I understand that you care about it, but would you accept that they took you on that front, so to say?
Michael Carrick:
No, no. The two goals came from set plays. Other than that, we had opportunities. That was where the game was.
I don’t think it was passion or anything to do with that. I think it was just their moments that made the difference in the game.
Me:
Is it these duels? Is that what you mean? That these two duels were the goals? Because they had chances. There were consequences there from the game that you could see that they would get at you.
Michael Carrick:
It’s a game of football, it’s a Premier League game. It’s their first game at home, and we’ve seen it many times before. You know, I said it before the game because it was always going to be a tough game. And set-plays, yeah, that’s it. We’ve been decent over a period of time at dealing with them, and today we didn’t. You know, we can look into that, we can dissect it. We certainly won’t get carried away with the positives or the negatives. We never do.
So I think we can stay calm and understand what we need to get better at.
Me:
Because of the World Cup, it’s been a funny and short pre-season. Will the first game be used to adjust to that, to find your team, to find the way you want to play? Maybe new players in, or all the new players you already have in. Is it that kind of season?
Michael Carrick:
No, listen, just because the result went against us, you know, we don’t need to look into all sorts of different things. I think sometimes results can happen in football. We don’t want them to happen against us, of course we don’t. We understand inside what we need to get better at, and we will do.
You know, we’ve added to the group. We’ve got a stronger group. Finding that rhythm, those connections, and keep moving forward.
So one game won’t knock us from that.
Me:
I hate to ask about players, and I won’t do it and I’ll try to do it in a clever way. But I will say, when you see your team now, if you’re going to go into the market again, where would you like to go?
Michael Carrick:
We’re trying to improve the squad, so we’ll see what happens in the rest of the window.
Largely accurate this, but it is very poor planning.
🚨🚨🗣️ @LaurensJulien on the head coach situation at Manchester United:
“I was told that there’s NO plan B [to Michael Carrick] for now. So what’s the point for United to get rid of Carrick then appoint an interim coach between now and whenever they can appoint another permanent coach?
“May as well keep Carrick, half as the coach that he is right now, half as an INTERIM coach until a potential plan B, whether that’s [Julian] Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, Unai Emery, whoever you want there. But right now, the plan B is not ready.
“It’s NOT that they can’t find one [a replacement], it’s just that this process of appointing somebody else if they decide to get rid of Carrick will take a bit of time, which is normal.”

But the manager doesn’t believe in putting in hard yards. You see the issue here?
One good half of performance this entire season. It’s not the last few weeks, these spun up narratives that the players have suddenly turned on Carrick is so insulting. Neville himself said Fulham was the worse he’d ever seen United. That was 6 weeks ago.
Neville: 'So I'm really surprised that Michael is still in a job. How it’s going to go in the next couple of weeks, I have no idea. But I hope he can somehow get those players to start playing for him again, because they haven’t played for him for the last few weeks.' #mufc

This leadership continue an almost unprecedented run of getting every big call wrong. You could flip a coin for a decision and not have made this many mistakes in a row. We are being run by random rules like who would get on with Jason Wilcox.
They also chanted to toss you on a bonfire but… we pick and choose what we hear I suppose.
🚨 Sources say it did NOT go unnoticed by the Manchester United front office that Michael Carrick received significant support from United fans during and after the defeat to Bournemouth. #MUFC [@RobDawsonESPN, @MarkOgden_]
We got hit with the no value in the coaching market.
🚨 | #mufc's decision-makers are NOT fully SOLD on available coaches like Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann.
A well-placed source said, “The best ones won’t come.”
[Samuel Luckhurst]
The cost of their debt alone is more than the savings from the job cuts. I cannot believe anyone actually wrote this with a straight face. Not to mention, the Glazers oversaw the job cuts, they are legally responsible for them as they're outside the scope of football.
🚨 NEW:
Sources say that the handling of Manchester United’s job cuts by Sir Jim Ratcliffe did NOT sit well with the Glazers, particularly Joel and Avram.
One source says that Ratcliffe’s implementation of the program jarred with Joel’s “sense of decency and old-fashioned values”.

This is also going massively over the top in terms of the discussing their quality. There are 0 United players playing well right now. Zero.
Lammens was signing of the season, Bruno broke the assist record. Cunha won us probably 15 points with his key goals. If this incredibly poor, first 12 games of the season was your only impression of them, you wouldn’t be giving them a fair judgement at all.
I know asking for somewhat balanced, nuanced takes on here is futile. But believe it or not, there’s enough to criticize with the owners and directors without being ridiculous and claiming the squad is relegation level.
