After experiencing over a dozen miscarriages since her marriage in 2014, Ranim Haddad was referred to Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Susan E. Gerber (@segerber), MD, at Northwestern Medicine in 2020. When Ranim became pregnant in 2025, Dr. Gerber and her team monitored her closely.

Chicago-area mother Ranim Haddad experienced an emotionally tumultuous decade after having at least 20 miscarriages since her wedding in 2014. In 2020, her physicians referred her to Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Susan E. Gerber (@segerber), MD. In the years that followed, Ranim delivered a boy and a girl, Samuel and Miracle — unfortunately, neither baby survived.
But in 2025, Ranim finally got everything she’d ever dreamed of: a healthy baby boy, Emmanuel, who was born on October 1. “Ranim’s case is very unusual” says Dr. Gerber. “She’s had more losses than I’ve ever seen a patient have and go on to have a healthy, liveborn, full-term infant.”
