The coordination layer for the machine economy. Offline networking, identity, and data on 350K+ devices in 140+ countries. No server. No permission.

Every machine waits for a signal. When it breaks, everything goes blind. We started Offline Protocol by keeping people connected when networks failed. Today, that same technology runs on hundreds of thousands of devices worldwide. Now we're taking it further: resilient coordination for physical systems. Machines, people and AI agents that keep working together over whatever path remains. Where we are today: → 350,000+ devices across 140+ countries → Nearly 20,000 new accounts in August alone → 11,500+ local networks active this month → 60,000+ SDK downloads → 440,000+ location proofs received in the last 30 days → Zero paid acquisition Earlier this year, we closed a new round led by @DraperVC to turn our consumer scale into a rapidly growing enterprise business. Over the past month, we've begun working with partners including a global wind-energy manufacturer, an agricultural IoT provider, a fleet telematics platform, a physical AI operating system, and a data streaming platform, alongside teams in aerospace and satellite systems, embedded silicon and consumer wearables. Our pipeline also spans maritime and industrial monitoring, equipment custody, secure device identity, airline catering and restaurant operations. Wherever machines operate, Offline Protocol coordinates. Learn more at offlineprotocol.com

Offline payments on Offline Protocol. What blockchain should we experiment with next?
Built something for the @Zcash community using the @OfflineProtocol SDK: A shielded ZEC payment between two phones in airplane mode, over Bluetooth. → A café asks for 0.042 ZEC nearby → The customer's wallet verifies the café's key and opens an encrypted session before any amount is shared → They pay with Face ID, and the signed shielded transaction goes straight to the café's phone → The café's app accepts it and sends back a receipt → When the café's phone comes off airplane mode, the transaction goes to the network and gets mined Nothing is final until it's mined. Until then, both phones keep the same record and a receipt, and the chain still settles it. Shoutout to @megabyte0x for reaching out and inspiring me to share this feature from a larger offline payment network I was ideating on last year. @zodl_co @ZcashFoundation @zodl_app

Offline Protocol SDK 0.31 is out. A browser now runs as a full node: its own identity, encrypted sessions, and links to phones and boards over WebRTC and Web Bluetooth. Plus a Ruby gem, Flutter at React Native parity, and live Bluetooth signal strength. Release blogs: 1. SDK 0.31: a browser runs a full Offline Protocol node: offlineprotocol.com/blog/sdk… 2. SDK 0.31: a Ruby gem, Flutter parity, live BLE signal and sessions that heal: offlineprotocol.com/blog/sdk… Changelog: offlineprotocol.com/changelo…

I migrated our servers and database into a different VPC with a downtime of 7 mins why? we wanted @OfflineProtocol chat relay + livekit signalling server to talk to our auth and user service over private networking. so earlier this month i moved both servers, along with their postgres and redis, into the same private network as the backend. > stopped the old services moved the custom domains to the new services first > ran the db dump + restore > dump finished, dns was done lessons: - a migration has a code change too. railway's private network was ipv6, so had to change the binding from ipv4 to ipv6. - test at least for a week on staging before prod (the connection from client-apps too) - rehearse the migration till it's boring. i did it manually first, then with a script (on @bahdotsh 's suggestion) that printed progress at every step. the real run had no surprises - overlap the slow parts. dns usually gets switched once the new services are live, but propagation takes time. so i did it inside the data dump window: right after stopping the old services i added the custom domains to the new ones and sent the dns records to @sxtvik. by the time the dump + restore finished, propagation was done too.

Offline Protocol is now on ChatGPT and Codex. Describe the app you want to build. It picks the SDK packages, plans the architecture and previews the starter files. Try: • A walkie-talkie that works with no signal • Find my friends, no server • A neighborhood social app • Agents coordinating on one local network • A smart home hub that keeps running when the internet drops Install the plugin: chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_a…

We built a version of this, used by a few thousand people this year: IntelligenceMesh on app stores. > Offline and private LLMs > Local emergency resources and maps > Mesh based SOS to nearby users > Templated user personas and guides New iteration coming soon.
My friends were all talking about prepping so I made a survival LLM. A free app that runs an AI mdoel plus 1.5 million offline articles (medical guides, FEMA, survival manuals, wikipedia) entirely on your computer. No internet needed. brangus.io/survival-llm

🚨 i built the ULTIMATE IRL networking tool introducing Radius, built on @OfflineProtocol walk into any room and see who's worth talking to. phones find each other over bluetooth, with no accounts and no sign-up. 📡 live radar: see everyone nearby, filtered by what you're looking for 🤖 AI match: it reads everyone's profile and project website, then ranks who's most worth meeting for you. tap anyone for a personalised icebreaker ✂️ AI summary: drop your project's website and it cuts the BS into a sentence or two on what you actually do 🐋 net worth: connect your ethereum/solana wallets and flex your net worth via @zerion, or just show your tier (🦐 to 🐋) 🏟️ the room at a glance: total net worth, a leaderboard, the category mix, and what people want and offer, so you know if it's worth staying 🧭 finder: a hot/cold screen with haptics that tracks the signal as you walk toward someone 🤝 proof of meet: both phones sign, and the stamp mints as an @eas_eth attestation on @base 📝 notes and export: keep private notes on anyone you meet, then export the list to follow up later built for meetups, conferences, parties and hacker houses. going to @EFDevcon Mumbai? reply and let me know. if there's enough demand, i'll open up access! 👀

Spent the weekend testing @OfflineProtocol mesh SDK's browser support. Ended up with an @obsdmd plugin for sharing folders device to device over your LAN. Live co-editing, offline edits merge on reconnect, end-to-end encrypted with MLS. And the notes never touched a server. Browser support lands in the SDK’s next release. If you’ve got a local-first idea you’ve been sitting on, now’s a good time to dust it off.

I self-nominated our @OfflineProtocol mesh SDK for Rust Crate of the Week yesterday We’ve been building this for almost a year now. The SDK has grown into something that’s surpassed all our expectations, and it’s now capable of opening up a lot of possibilities for developers who want to build resilient applications across a whole range of domains. And the core of it is Rust. The SDK lets devices, apps and agents discover each other, communicate securely and coordinate work without needing the internet. Nodes find each other over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, Reticulum or Nostr relays, pick the best path in real time, and fall back to the internet only when it’s actually there. Everything is end-to-end encrypted with MLS, and the engine is sans-I/O, so it runs anywhere from phones to embedded Linux. I hope this opens the door to the Rust community and gets more of you looking at the code, questioning the design, and building on top of it. We’ve leaned on this ecosystem for a year. Now we’d like to be part of it, not just a consumer of it. If you write Rust and have an evening to spare, take a swing at it. Break it, review the API and tell us where the docs lost you. github.com/Offline-Protocol/… users.rust-lang.org/t/crate-…

Offline Protocol started with a simple question: how do people reach each other when the network around them can't be trusted? Messaging was our first answer. Over time the stack underneath has grown into something much broader. Today it gives developers identity, encrypted messaging, edge sync, data telemetry, and nearby service calls across phones, laptops and the devices around them, over whichever local, mesh, gateway or cloud path is available. This opens up far more possibilities than chat. A crowd that becomes its own network. A home that answers to your phone without a cloud listening in. A group sharing one AI model from the laptop that can run it. @bahdotsh's film captures that world beautifully and is grounded in real solutions we shipped this year. If you have an idea, we'd love to see and support what you build on our stack!
I recently started experimenting with creative ways to demo our work at @OfflineProtocol, and to showcase the world we are building towards.  In our world, every connection is local-first, private by default, and doesn’t disappear when infrastructure fails. Our work has so many applications, from enabling phones to talk to your home without a cloud listening in, to helping a crowd, a village or any community become its own network. We’re not trying to replace the internet. We’re making sure people can still reach each other when internet availability isn’t guaranteed.

Our SDK offers developers endless possibilities at the intersection of intelligence and hardware. This thread from @bahdotsh provides several examples of how home automation and device ownership delegation can be solved, locally and privately.
1/5 I built a smart-hub for my home that works without the internet with @OfflineProtocol sdk and @ratatui_rs !🧵

Railway has disclosed a security incident, and out of caution, we're replacing every credential our services use. Since Railway's deploys are currently paused, some Offline Protocol services and features may be slow or unavailable, and you may be asked to sign in again once the rotation is complete. We're monitoring closely and will bring everything back as soon as possible. This is an important precaution to keep our users safe. Thanks for your patience.

Mad respect as always to @sxtvik, he is often early and right with these takes Which is why I’m proud to support @OfflineProtocol for a truly decentralized future, not a “sufficiently decentralized” one
With Farcaster's acquisition announcement, I can now share my message to the team earlier this year. I find it funny how different Balaji's aspirations for this platform are from mine. I always believed FC had a real opportunity to challenge Bluesky and Mastodon as a champion of decentralized communities and free speech. With all the posts I'm seeing from people getting immediately banned, I do not believe the new owners embody those values and interests. Rip Farcaster, I had higher hopes.
