A coach will forgive a slow forty.
He will not forgive a lie on the profile.
Make every number true.
Coaches ask about your locker room presence.
The answer comes from your coach, your teachers, and your timeline.
All three should agree.
Character shows up on film in ways you do not expect: how you help a teammate up, how you react to a flag, what you do after a bad play.
Your high school coach may have never sent a player to college.
That is not his fault and it is not a reason to stop.
The portal is not your competition.
The recruit who sent his film to the same coach yesterday is.
Send yours today.
Roster limits mean walk-on spots are scarcer.
If you are offered one, ask how many exist and how many became scholarships.
Ask about the last three players at your position who left in the portal.
Where did they go and why.
The answers describe the program.
A one-camera press box angle and a clean cut is all the production you need.
Spend the money on nothing else.
The best defense against the portal is being the kind of player a coach would go to the portal to find.
Cut film that looks like that.
The portal changed when coaches decide.
It did not change what they decide on.
Film, grades, character.
Same three things.
Transfers from small schools to bigger programs happen every year.
Your first stop does not have to be your last.
Transfers bring uncertainty to a coach's roster.
A verified, committed high school recruit is the opposite.
Be the certainty.
Portal or not, coaches still need eighty-five players.
Most of them still come from high school.
Most of those came from an email.
The portal rewards programs that develop players.
Choose the school with a track record of developing, and you will not be replaced by a transfer.
Roster spots open in April when transfers leave.
Seniors without a home in March should have film in every inbox by then.
A coach who tells you honestly that your spot depends on portal movement is a coach who tells the truth.
Weigh that.
High school recruits still make up most of every roster.
The portal is loud.
The numbers are not.
Keep sending film.
Playing eight-man or six-man football does not disqualify you.
Coaches have signed players from both.
Lead with the athleticism.
