Really happy to see #Mithya win the National Award for Best Kannada Film. This is one of the most honest Kannada films made in recent years. A deeply moving story about childhood trauma, grief, and displacement. Yet, when it was released, very few people turned up to watch it. Sumnath Bhat recently said that, at least for now, he won't make another film like Mithya and will focus on commercial cinema instead. He isn't blaming the audience. He's accepting the reality. And that's the real loss. If we keep ignoring filmmakers who take risks and tell meaningful stories, we shouldn't complain when everyone starts making only "safe" commercial films.
