I didn't realize it at the time, but what happened on September 11th would completely change the trajectory of my life.
Very quickly, America was a nation at war. I was angry about us being attacked, and I wanted to do my part. I wanted to fight back.
I was unwilling to let other people go and fight for me. I grew up in a working class family, and I wasn't going to have other working class kids go and bear the burden on my behalf.
I was a senior in college on 9/11. I had just started the last year of my ROTC. I had a National Guard contract, so I was going to be commissioned in the National Guard as an officer. After the September 11th attacks, I went to my ROTC unit commander and asked for a transition to an active duty contract. Less than a year later, I was an infantry officer going through all the training and getting ready to go to war. I would deploy three times to the Middle East, and end up completing three combat tours, first in Iraq as a paratrooper, and then in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger.
Later, my views changed about what “fighting back” actually looks like, and how to do that the right way versus the wrong way. But at the time, that's what it meant to me.
My time in the military still guides my belief in service today. Now, as a Member of Congress, I have a duty and obligation to keep our nation safe and protect our servicemembers. I take my oath seriously and believe there is no higher calling than service to one’s country.

Fear is contagious, but so is courage.
Cassidy Hutchinson bravely testified under oath about the January 6th insurrection.
And today’s grand jury showed true courage in rejecting Trump’s abuses of power.
Everyday citizens are standing up and holding this reckless President accountable.
Breaking news: A grand jury rejected the DOJ’s attempt to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson for the account she gave lawmakers of President Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with the matter. wapo.st/4jFAkbz
This Administration is shamefully selling out our allies & propping up our adversaries.
It’s a disgrace.
No more sanctions relief for Russia.
After the diesel deal, the US is considering dropping sanctions on Russia's flagship government investment fund nytimes.com/2026/10/27/us/po…
Foreign service workers take an oath to the Constitution—not to one President or one political party.
It’s wrong to force a purity test on America’s civil servants.

A single unelected tech oligarch shouldn’t be able to make life-and-death decisions about America’s national security.
After Elon Musk posted on X saying he had throttled Ukraine’s use of Starlink after it was used for offensive attacks, House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says the billionaire’s ability to wield that power is “beyond disturbing to me.”
“It cannot and should not be the case that a tech oligarch, a private citizen, who has that much control over our national security, who is unaccountable, who is unelected, with zero transparency, is making life and death decisions on the battlefield in systems that our service members and our partners and allies rely upon,” he adds.
Pete Hegseth is incompetent and a threat to our national security. He needs to go.

Trump bragged about how his friends in Big Oil are “making a freaking fortune” off his Iran war.
The President’s profiting, too.
While you pay sky-high prices at the pump, he’s trading energy stocks & making millions.
FIRST ON CBS: As President Trump boasts about how much money the U.S. oil and gas industry is making from the war with Iran, the president's personal holdings in oil and gas are now worth between $22.5 million and $81.6 million, compared with $12.6 million to $46 million at the end of 2025, according to a new report by Democrats on the Congressional Joint Economic Committee. cbsn.ws/47IN9un
This is a new low.
Trump’s top officials called Putin a “humanitarian.”
This as Russia is killing Ukrainian civilians and helping Iran target U.S. troops.
This Administration’s coddling of dictators is beyond the pale.
Rep. Jason Crow retweeted
House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says ousting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is “my priority number one if we retake the majority.”
“Our service members actually deserve competent, serious, real leadership that will protect them and do the right thing. And they currently don't have that,” he says.
Just launched the new JustBus in Aurora!
This new resource will help Coloradans with legal services and tenants’ rights to help stay in their homes.
I was proud to secure federal funding to get this initiative up and running to help our community.
This is completely unacceptable.
Civilians are dying because of Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s decisions.
Americans do not support abandoning the people of Ukraine under Russian attack.

Veterans are leaders.
They help defend our country and bring Americans together.
I know veterans will continue leading the way and bring our country together again.
It was a privilege to join the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers at their conference in Denver.
Unions built the middle class. I’ll always have their backs.
First he eased sanctions on Russia.
Then critical Starshield defense capabilities were intentionally disrupted.
Now the President is dragging his feet getting Ukraine support to intercept missiles and drones killing civilians.
Siding with Putin is not in America's interests.

Putin is no "humanitarian."
He's a war criminal. He kidnaps children and is killing innocent civilians.
It's pathetic and disgusting to see American officials grovel at the feet of an autocrat.
Unelected billionaires & private corporations should not decide America's national security interests.
Trump and Musk are pointing fingers at each other. Someone is not telling the truth.
Congress needs to investigate these decisions that have led to civilian deaths.
We’re not going back! Out of the devastation of the Trump administration, we’re gonna build a new foreign policy.
It needs to make life better for working class Americans.
And it starts with connecting policymakers with Americans in all corners of our nation. We’re gonna break down the DC bubble.
