Solutions abound when you switch from yelling #climatecrisis to focusing on cutting climate risk. Full #climlifebergen @UiB_IF talk at: revkin.substack.com/p/how-to…
I love the reply from @craasch
Tough BAAJA permitting reform questions posed to @SenCapito @SenMikeLee @SenWhitehouse @SenatorHeinrich by @SenDuckworth @JeffMerkley @RonWyden @SenMarkey: "[I]n seeking our support for BAAJA, you are asking every Senator to rely on informal assurances from a Trump administration that has proven to be an untrustworthy and erratic negotiating partner and demonstrated a willingness to ignore and violate the plain language of the law.
Beyond consideration of the actual text, the promise of BAAJA will only succeed if President Trump takes care that it is faithfully executed. The Trump administration’s record gives us no basis to assume that he will."
Great ongoing reporting by @SiegelScribe for @PunchbowlNews (See his post for link to the letter.)
Scoop in @PunchbowlNews AM: 4 Senate Democrats led by @SenDuckworth are pushing back on the bipartisan permitting reform bill, arguing it will further enable Trump to favor fossil fuel projects and won’t stop its attacks on clean energy. Merkley, Markey, Wyden join new letter

This is how ethnic cleansing always starts. You have to delegitimize the ethnic minority's claims to equal rights.

If you haven’t watched this yet please do.
I don’t care if you are Republican or Democrat, if this doesn’t move you to vote against the current state of affairs nothing will.
Our grandchildren will watch this clip in history class, to better understand the political climate during Trumpism.
Maine students are fine with cell phone ban.
Nearly three months into a ban on cellphones in Maine schools, educators told The Maine Monitor they have been surprised by how understanding students have been.
They described the effects on students as overwhelmingly positive.

A fine @sjmontlake CSM look at our Maine 2d District congressional race. We voted for @dunlap4congress and hope his positions can carry him to victory over MAGA Florida Man @MainePaulLePage
ME-2 Dem nominee Matt Dunlap says he opposes a federal assault weapon bans and would vote against one even if his vote determined whether it passed. csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2…

Elon Musk has spent more money on American elections in the last two years than George Soros has in his entire life.
Brazil once again goes with democracy. #LulaPelaDemocracia One big winner? The Amazon rain forest.
Brazil's transfer of power shows how democracy can work even in the face of extremist tides. It's shameful that Bolsonaro chose to flee to Mar-a-Lago instead of handing the presidential sash to Lula. But the deeply inclusive ceremony was beautiful, as @oscar_soria describes.

The leader of Cuba, which hasn't held a presidential election since 1948, congratulates Lula on his win in Brazil.
Good moment for Lula to call for Cuba to permit a free and fair vote.
Estimado hermano @LulaOficial, te felicito en nombre del gobierno y pueblo cubanos por esta victoria histórica que garantiza la continuidad del camino de paz, soberanía y justicia social emprendido por el pueblo brasileño bajo tu liderazgo.

Pay less attention to the singularity. The #vulnpocalypse comes first.
Replying to @Revkin
"The term Vulnpocalypse is increasingly being used to describe the surge in vulnerability discovery driven by generative AI and advanced security analysis models. AI-assisted research is dramatically accelerating the identification of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), uncovering flaws that traditional methods may have missed for years.
Recent examples have highlighted AI systems identifying vulnerabilities in widely used software, including decades-old issues that had previously escaped detection. As these capabilities continue to improve, security teams can expect an unprecedented increase in the volume of vulnerabilities requiring investigation and remediation." community.ibm.com/community/…
Pay attention. #vulnpocalypse rhetoric in Silicon Valley is accelerating. More from IBM... 1/2

Perfect encapsulation of @SenatorCollins campaign strategy- plaster airwaves and local media with micro bonbons to hide the big @GOP con job:
Anytime you think you’re working too hard talk to a DownEast Maine bait worm harvester. Our cove this morning before and after dawn.
Elsewhere folks flock to shores for last-gasp #LaborDay recreation. This morning in Downeast Maine, the only people on fog-wrapped Lamoine Beach were hard-digging wormers cleaning hauls before selling the marine worms to the bait trade. #mainelife Data: 1/2

Elon Musk claims that Ukraine allegedly violated Starlink's terms of use and used the system on combat drones.
As someone who was inside the process at the Ministry of Defense, I can say with certainty that this is not true.
In February of this year, whitelists were introduced. Stationary terminals could be registered by both military personnel and civilians.
But for any satellite terminal to work while on the move, it had to be added to a special list and connected to the military Starshield system. Otherwise, no satellite communication terminals in Ukraine would work.
In other words, using civilian Starlink for drone missions was technically impossible. All drone missions that required satellite communication could only be carried out using Starshield.
We are very grateful to the United States and SpaceX for access to critically important satellite communications. Ukraine did not violate the terms of use.

As @POTUS lifts sanctions on the Kremlin, Russia launches one of its largest attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, seeking once again to plunge civilians into darkness as the winter cold sets in.
By easing pressure on Moscow, the Trump administration is allowing the Kremlin to act with impunity in its brutal campaign against civilians, while the U.S. looks the other way.
Yesterday, the Russians carried out one of their largest attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector – more than 15 critical power generation and transmission facilities were targeted across different regions of Ukraine. Restoration work is ongoing, with all necessary services and all available resources of Ukrainian energy companies involved. I thank everyone working practically nonstop to restore power.
The most difficult situation was in Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Shepetivka, Slavuta, and Netishyn. Energy facilities in the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipro, and other regions were also hit. The Russians have scaled up their anti-energy operation and are trying to stretch our reserves and repair capabilities as thin as possible. Between 7 p.m. yesterday and 7 a.m. today alone, more than 320 jet-powered and gasoline-powered “shaheds,” along with loitering munitions, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, were used against our energy sector, our cities, and our communities. And although our warriors are shooting down a significant number of them, the sheer scale and unrelenting pace of Russia’s strikes, specifically against our energy sector, are unfortunately having severe consequences.
It is important that our European partners have already prepared new support packages for Ukraine. I am grateful to them for this. And it is important that everyone in America also sees what is really happening. At a time when the Russians have carried out such a massive attack on our energy sector, a decision was unfortunately made in America to completely disregard the Lindsey Graham Act, which was supposed to impose truly effective pressure on Russia to bring this war to an end. This Act could have helped enormously – and still can! But it needs to actually work, and every voice in support of it matters.
Russia is trying to cause a blackout in Ukraine – right before winter. Russia is trying to leave millions of our people without electricity and heating. Pressure is needed to stop this. A U.S. sanctions blackout, easing pressure on the aggressor, financial rewards for Putin – all of this only encourages him to keep attacking. We must not give up ground. We must keep trying to end the war. To end it, not give Putin every reason to continue it indefinitely. I thank everyone who is truly fighting for peace and helping Ukraine!
Bravo @Shelby_Wilder
A mention of my work in the @CJR Columbia Journalism Review:
“Friends, readers, countrymen: I come today not to bury Newsmax, but to praise it. […] Look at how the network covers the Ukraine-Russia war. In particular, you should watch how Shelby Wilder, a Newsmax foreign correspondent, has delivered vivid coverage of the conflict to an audience in and around the MAGAverse.”

The shifting explanations from Musk and the administration sound like Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First?” Except the consequences for Ukrainian civilians are deadly.
Musk says he didn’t do it. The administration says it didn’t either. Yet someone in the administration reportedly told Musk to undo it, and Ukraine reports only partial restoration.
Are we supposed to believe Hegseth and the Pentagon don’t know the status of a capability critical to U.S., Ukrainian and allied security?
Whoever is handing Putin the gift of a more vulnerable Ukraine should at least have the guts to put their name on it. Hiding behind denials while innocent people pay the price is cowardice.
Meanwhile, Putin keeps murdering civilians and trying to starve and freeze Ukraine into submission. Americans deserve answers. Ukrainians deserve the means to defend themselves.
