The phone is still ringing all day long. Folk reporting hedgehogs seen out in the day. Most casualties are just babies. And every single one is suffering from sickness caused from starvation. The callers are shocked. They think hedgehogs love slugs, which are plentiful. They don't. Slugs carry deadly lungworm. Hedgehogs eat beetles and caterpillars. There are none about now so healthy full grown hedgehogs hibernate. Those not able to reach that happy state will struggle on, desperately searching for something to eat, and eventually die of starvation or parasite invasion if they are not lucky enough to find a kind garden that provides food. A dish of dry kitten biscuits will make the difference between life and death. Please be that difference.
