Interesting point!!
Athletic Directors/decision makers Who Bury Football Programs Need a Hard Look There comes a time when people have to stop pretending everything is fine and start looking at the people making the decisions. Right now that means taking a serious look at some athletic directors who have buried football programs by hiring the wrong guys. Not coaches who love football. Not the ones who are obsessed with the game and actually care about changing kids’ lives. Just the wrong guys. The ones who bring real success are the ones who live and breathe the sport. They show up early, stay late, coach hard, teach the game the right way, and treat the kids like they matter. Those coaches build programs. They fill the stands. They create an atmosphere that makes Friday nights matter again. Ticket sales go up. Boosters get involved. The school makes money that helps the whole athletic department. That is how it is supposed to work. Somehow some schools are still sitting where they are. Talent is coming up through the youth ranks and the middle schools. Kids who can play are right there in the feeder programs. Yet the varsity looks lost year after year. That does not happen by accident. It happens when the athletic director hires somebody who checks boxes instead of somebody who actually loves coaching football. Somebody who talks a good game in the interview but has no fire for the work it takes to build something lasting. You cannot blame the kids who take this serious for transferring. When a program has no direction, no culture, and no real coaching, the players who care about getting better and competing are going to look elsewhere. That is not disloyalty. That is kids protecting their own futures. High school football is still the biggest stage a lot of these young men will ever stand on. They want to play for somebody who knows what he is doing and actually wants them to succeed. School boards and superintendents need to start asking harder questions about some of these athletic director positions. An AD who keeps putting the wrong coaches in place is not protecting the program. He is slowly killing it. The evidence is right there on the field and in the empty bleachers. When the same pattern repeats for years, the problem is not just the coach. The problem starts higher up. Football programs do not stay down forever by chance. They stay down when the people in charge keep making the same soft decisions. The coaches who love the game and care about the kids are out there. They are the ones who turn things around and bring energy and funding back to the school. It is time somebody started hiring them instead of the ones who just look good on paper.
