💡 A2A payments’ progress depends on trust, something that is clear from The Paypers’ Account-to-Account Payments Report 2026, now freely available to download ➡️ bit.ly/3TuCEHK As A2A payments have expanded over the years, this third edition of the report will help all ecosystem players navigate the complexities of A2A payments. Split into six sections covering the global landscape, our industry guide shares insights into: ✔ Real-time payments (RTPs) infrastructure and scheme evolution ✔ A2A technology enablers: Open Banking, Open Finance, and CBDCs ✔ A2A payments interoperability and cross-border scaling ✔ The global A2A market landscape – local and regional developments ✔ Regulations and fraud prevention None of The Paypers' reports is complete without industry mappings, so we’ve prepared two infographics featuring local and regional A2A schemes and rails, plus Open Banking- and Open Finance-based A2A payments and technology providers.

Estera Sava, Senior Writer at The Paypers, looks at the layers that make it work: Open Banking, Open Finance, and CBDCs 👉 buff.ly/MjzHO03

4/ CBDCs have made more political progress than technical progress. The Digital Euro pilot is underway, but first issuance isn’t targeted until 2029. So far, multi-rail interoperability is coming from direct links between existing instant payment systems, not from CBDCs.

3/ Bring your risk signals into recovery. TC40 data, SAFE reports and pre-arbitration alerts can show when a card has already been flagged for fraud, so you can stop retrying before it turns into a chargeback. A risk profile can change between attempts. Check it on every retry.

4/ For customers, good recovery is mostly invisible. Fix backend errors and only reach out when they actually need to do something, like update an expired card. Plus: why preventing duplicate charges is the biggest engineering challenge.
