#OPINION | A nicotine pouch mainly contains nicotine, water, flavourings, sweeteners and plant-based fibres. As they come in various dosages, some have more nicotine than others. While the intent of the original developers of these products were to aid tobacco cessation, tobacco industry majors have acquired most of these companies.
They wish to profit from a diversity of smoked and non-smoked nicotine-containing products to benefit from the addictions of smokers as well as non-smokers.

Reserve antibiotics are a critical last line against resistant infections. But access remains uneven, and the pipeline for new antibiotics is thin.
At a national consultation on 16 October, GARDP, @IIPHDelhi and @thePHFI brought partners together to advance a Strategic Roadmap for responsible access in India, co-convened with @ficci_india, with @ICMRDELHI as technical and advisory partner.
Pooled and hybrid procurement could help bridge access gaps while making stewardship central to purchasing decisions. The next step is to test these approaches through a pilot adapted to state contexts.

VIDEO | World Heart Day: Changing lifestyles, unhealthy diets and tobacco use contribute to rise in cardiovascular diseases, says Prof. Monika Arora, Vice President-Research and Health Promotion Division, Public Health Foundation Of India (PHFI).
Speaking about the rise in cardiovascular diseases, Prof. Monika Arora(@DrMonikaArora) says, "The increase in cardiovascular diseases we are seeing in India is a result of changing lifestyles and the nutrition transition our country is experiencing, as we move from traditional diets towards Western diets. Even within traditional diets, healthy options are increasingly being left behind. We need to ensure that this epidemiological change and nutrition transition are properly addressed. Nicotine is available in both smoking and smokeless tobacco. New forms of nicotine addiction, such as vapes and electronic nicotine devices, are also emerging. These too contribute to cardiovascular diseases."
