Behind our new sculpture, Rooted: A Testament to Jewish Resilience, is a story of connection, solidarity, and strength.
We spoke with curator Shlomi Rabi about UJA’s Hostage Tag Project culminating in the installation, and the vision that brought thousands of hostage tags together to honor our community’s resilience.

Deeply honored to be appointed by @GovKathyHochul to the New York State Holocaust Memorial Commission.
At a time of rising antisemitism, it is more important than ever that we honor the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, recognize the survivors, and ensure that future generations understand where hatred can lead.

Eight years ago today, eleven members of the Tree of Life synagogue were murdered in the deadliest attack against Jews on American soil.
The Tree of Life shooting irrevocably changed the city of Pittsburgh and the American Jewish community, and the lives of the families and friends of those killed. May their memories forever be a blessing.
As October comes to a close, we're showcasing the many ways our partners — including @hillelatbaruch, @JCCstatenisland, Manes JCC, and @Commonpoint_Qns — showed their support during #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth. 💗
From pickleball tournaments to community walks to wearing pink with pride, our partners found meaningful ways to bring people together and raise awareness.

This week, leaders in advocacy and public policy from across our community gathered for our partner
@SelfhelpNY's 90th Anniversary International Conference.
Recently, our staff visited Rooted: A Testament to Jewish Resilience at @MJHnews and heard from curator Shlomi Rabi about how this powerful art installation came to life.
Recently, we were honored to convene more than 70 pastors and rabbis from across New York City at the @MJHnews to strengthen ties between Christian and Jewish communities.
Good food, new friends, one table — that's a recipe for community if we ever heard one. 💙
Yesterday, we were proud to sponsor @TheLongestTable alongside @MM_JCCManhattan/ JCC Harlem and three other local neighborhoods, bringing hundreds of New Yorkers together for an afternoon of noshing, meaningful connection, and lots of fun.
Thanks to everyone who took a seat at the table!
It is disturbing to see graffiti against Israeli companies and vandalism like this in New York. We remain in close touch with @CSI_SecurityNY and law enforcement partners as they investigate the matter and hopefully identify the perpetrators.
The vandalism and destruction at the Capital One branch on 86th Street is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
I have been in contact with the NYPD regarding this incident and have urged an immediate investigation, including whether this is a potential antisemitic hate crime.
There is no place for hate, intimidation or violence in New York City.
#ShabbatShalom and happy #NationalSportsDay! ⚽️💙
Through our grantee @TEqualizer, children and teens in Israel are finding strength in sports as they rebuild their lives after the trauma of October 7.
On and off the field, they’re building confidence, forming friendships, and healing together. 🇮🇱
Since October 7, Israelis have been living with trauma — and they shouldn’t have to navigate the road to healing alone.
This week, we cut the ribbon on the UJA-supported Mevo’ot HaHermon–Sheba Clinic in northern Israel with our grantee @sheba_medical.
The center will make specialized mental health care more accessible to families, helping them find the care they need to rebuild and thrive.
"Anyone suggesting that this means I am giving up on Israel is trying to turn the ordinary rebalancing and management of a pension portfolio into a political issue. That is simply not the case. Our commitment to investing in Israel remains clear in the hundreds of millions of dollars in Israeli equities that our pension funds continue to hold."
New York City pension funds have approximately $285 million invested in Israel’s thriving economy. Thank you, Comptroller Levine, for this important clarifying statement and for the work you do on behalf of all New Yorkers.
The economic relationship between New York City and Israel is deeply important, bringing substantial investment into our city and generating strong returns for our pension funds.
Our funds invest around the world, including more than $285 million in Israel, primarily in equities. Israel remains one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative economies, and those holdings remain an important part of our portfolio. They also make clear that New York City’s pension funds are not engaging in BDS.
I expressed my deep appreciation for the Israel-NYC economic relationship during my campaign for comptroller, and that appreciation remains unchanged. I also pledged to make every investment decision free of politics, based solely on its financial merits and my fiduciary responsibility to 750,000 current and future retirees.
We apply those same principles to Israel Bonds. At present, a number of challenges, including constraints related to a rules change on our short-term investment desk made by the previous comptroller, prevent us from making direct purchases. We continue to evaluate this investment, as we do all potential investments.
Anyone suggesting that this means I am giving up on Israel is trying to turn the ordinary rebalancing and management of a pension portfolio into a political issue. That is simply not the case. Our commitment to investing in Israel remains clear in the hundreds of millions of dollars in Israeli equities that our pension funds continue to hold.
Like many Jewish New Yorkers, my deep personal connection to Israel is a part of who I am. It will not change. As New York City comptroller, I also have a solemn duty to safeguard our city’s pension funds, and I will not shirk that responsibility. I will continue to honor both commitments with integrity.
College students should be focused on building their futures — not worrying about where their next meal will come from.
Through our partnership with @QueensHillel, we’re helping students access kosher food, find community, and get the support they need to thrive. With a new off-campus space, Hillel is meeting students where they are and creating a place where they can feel at home.
