You Defended Yourself in Your Own Home. Could You STILL Face Murder Charges? Many gun owners believe Castle Doctrine automatically protects them if they use deadly force against an intruder. But that's not always the case. Depending on your state, three important self-defense laws could affect your legal rights: 👉 Duty to Retreat: When you may be required to safely escape a threat before using deadly force. 👉 Stand Your Ground: When the law allows you to defend yourself without a duty to retreat. 👉 Castle Doctrine: When the law may presume your fear of serious harm was reasonable inside your home. But that protection isn't always automatic. The BIG takeaway? Just because you're defending yourself inside your own home doesn't mean your actions are automatically considered legally justified. Being a prepared Protector means knowing your rights BEFORE you're forced to make a split-second decision. 📍 Know your state's self-defense and gun laws: uscca.co/lp4l

Could You Make the Shot With Only One Hand? Most range practice happens with a perfect two-handed grip. Real-life situations may not give you that option. ATF Will NO LONGER Enforce Suppressor Registration! The ATF announced major changes to how it will enforce the National Firearms Act (NFA), effective October 9, 2026. Under the new nationwide guidance, ATF will no longer enforce federal NFA registration or prior-approval requirements for suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs) and certain other firearms. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? In 2025, Congress reduced the federal NFA making and transfer tax from $200 to $0 for these items. In August 2026, a federal judge in Texas ruled that key NFA requirements could no longer be justified under Congress's taxing power after the tax was eliminated. The ruling initially protected only certain plaintiffs, members and customers. The Department of Justice decided NOT to appeal. Now, ATF says its new nonenforcement policy will apply nationwide. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR GUN OWNERS? 👉 No enforced federal NFA registration: ATF will no longer enforce registration requirements for covered items. 👉 No $200 NFA tax stamp: Congress already eliminated the making and transfer tax for these items. 👉 No mandatory prior NFA approval: ATF will no longer enforce Form 1 or Form 4 approval requirements for covered items. 👉 Background checks still apply: Licensed dealers must follow applicable federal firearm sales laws, including Form 4473 and required background checks. 👉 State laws still matter: Some states prohibit these items or impose additional restrictions. The federal policy does NOT override state laws. IMPORTANT: THE NFA HAS NOT BEEN REPEALED. ATF is choosing not to enforce certain federal requirements. Congress has NOT removed those requirements from the law. ATF will still accept voluntary registrations. Future legal or policy changes could also affect owners of unregistered NFA items. DOJ Won’t Appeal NFA Ruling on Suppressors and SBRs The Department of Justice says it will not appeal a federal court ruling that blocked key National Firearms Act rules for certain suppressors, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns. The ruling came after Congress lowered the NFA’s federal making and transfer tax to $0 for those items. A federal judge said that without the tax, the government could no longer rely on its taxing power to support the registration and approval rules being challenged. What does this mean for everyday gun owners? This does NOT mean the NFA is gone nationwide. The court order currently protects the people and groups involved in the lawsuit and, in some cases, their current and future members and customers. That means ATF and DOJ cannot enforce the challenged NFA rules against the people covered by the court order. For gun owners who are not covered by the ruling, current federal NFA rules may still apply. Because DOJ will not appeal, this ruling will stay in place for the people it covers. But it does not mean every gun owner in the country is now exempt from NFA requirements. You Never Fired a Shot. Could You Still Face Criminal Charges? A confrontation in a parking lot suddenly escalates, and you believe you may be facing a serious threat. You may think displaying your firearm could stop that threat. But depending on the circumstances and the laws in your state, drawing or showing a gun could potentially be viewed as brandishing, threatening behavior or another criminal offense — even if you never fire a shot. There can be an important difference between: 👉 Lawfully carrying a visible firearm 👉 Displaying a firearm because you reasonably believe you’re facing a threat 👉 Showing a firearm to intimidate, threaten or gain control of a confrontation And those legal lines can change from state to state. A Protector’s goal isn’t to win an argument or prove a point. It’s to protect life, avoid unnecessary confrontation and make responsible decisions when the pressure is high. If a situation reaches the point where you believe you need to draw your firearm for self-defense, your decisions before, during and after that moment may be examined. That’s why preparation matters. Know your firearm. Train with it. Understand the law. And have the discipline to recognize when walking away may be the better choice.
