People often ask what the difference is. Both use dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (that's the DEXA part). The difference is what we point it at and what we're asking. 1. Body composition asks: What am I made of? A whole-body scan, about 10 minutes, that splits you into fat, lean mass and bone, region by region. Arms, legs, trunk, and the one that matters most for metabolic health: visceral fat, the kind packed around your organs that you can't pinch. 2. Bone density asks: How strong is my skeleton? A targeted scan of the hip and lumbar spine. It produces a T-score, your bone density compared to a healthy young adult at peak bone mass. Between -1 and -2.5 is osteopenia. Below -2.5 is osteoporosis. This is the scan clinicians use to diagnose both

Why it matters: Cardiovascular disease killed 915,000+ Americans in 2023. In the Swedish SCAPIS study, 42% of adults 50 to 64 with no known heart disease already had coronary plaque. None had symptoms. If you're 40 to 75 and you've been meaning to ask your doctor about this, consider this the nudge. mitohealth.com/products/coro…

Is berberine really “nature’s Ozempic”? This is how a supplement became part of the GLP-1 conversation. Berberine was already being studied for blood sugar when GLP-1 drugs became a weight-loss phenomenon. Social media connected the two, and “nature’s Ozempic” gave the supplement a much bigger promise. There is a real, but narrow, overlap. Clinical trials have found modest improvements in fasting glucose and HbA1c, mostly among people with diabetes or other metabolic conditions. The evidence for meaningful weight loss is much less convincing, and berberine does not work like a GLP-1 medication. The markers worth following depend on the expected result. HbA1c captures the longer glucose trend. Fasting glucose provides a point-in-time measurement. Fasting insulin, interpreted alongside glucose, adds context on insulin sensitivity through HOMA-IR. Triglycerides and ApoB are more relevant when cholesterol is part of the goal. Our guide to lowering HbA1c naturally examines the evidence for berberine alongside diet, exercise, sleep, and testing cadence: mitohealth.com/guide/lowerin… For the prescription side, read our GLP-1 medications and monitoring guide to learn how these drugs work and which metabolic markers are commonly followed: mitohealth.com/blog/glp-1-me…

Nearly half the room raised their hands when we asked if someone in their family had died from cancer. 400+ RSVPs for an evening in SF with Dr Min-Han Tan of Lucence, talking about ctDNA, liquid biopsy, and earlier cancer detection. Some questions we covered: > How does ctDNA testing actually work? > How early can cancer be detected through blood? > Who should consider testing? > What can these tests detect today, and what are the limitations? LucenceINSIGHT Core, Me, and 12 are now available through Mito Health. Check it out here: mitohealth.com/shop/cancer-e…

Don't suffer in silence.
For years, I thought I just had a blocked nose. Every morning: congested. Antihistamines, nasal sprays, air purifiers… nothing fixed it. An ENT finally diagnosed a severely deviated septum from an old goalkeeping injury. Surgery helped. But I still had allergies. Skin prick + IgE testing finally told me what I was actually reacting to. The frustrating part? The testing was expensive. Fast forward a few years, we realized we could negotiate much lower pricing for Quest allergy testing. Today we offer 500+ IgE allergy tests, many 50% cheaper than buying directly. See link below.

Let’s lead the industry with real cost plus testing and labs. 👀
Three years ago, we started @usemitohealth because we wished a different kind of healthcare company existed. One that helped people live better, for longer. After helping run more than 1 million lab tests, we realized something: Healthcare incentives are often backwards. The same blood test can cost 10–40x more depending on where you buy it. Recommendations are too often shaped by markups, commissions, and business models—not what’s best for the patient. So we’re changing Mito. • Transparent pricing • Near-cost labs, scans, and diagnostics • Guidance you can trust • A simple $9/month membership When you need something, we’ll help you get it as close to cost as possible. When you don’t, we’ll tell you that too. Our job isn’t to sell you more. It’s to help you make better decisions about your health. Welcome to the new Mito.

Retatrutide: 30.3% weight loss at 2 years. Triple agonist. Phase 3. We're entering an era where the molecule isn't the question... the right protocol, the right person, the right biomarkers to track is. And everyone in health, outside of the AI-sphere in going crazy. The mechanism story is bigger, and almost nobody will explain it today. TRIUMPH-1 headlines: → 70 lbs (31.7kg) average weight loss on 12mg at 80 weeks (1.5 years) → 45% of high-dose patients hit ≥30% body weight reduction (this is bariatric surgery territory) → 65% dropped below the obesity BMI threshold entirely → In the BMI ≥35 extension cohort, weight loss was still trending down at 104 weeks → even 4mg delivered ~19% loss with discontinuation rates below placebo → significant drops in blood pressure, triglycerides, non-HDL cholesterol, waist circumference, and hsCRP → no cardiac or liver signals Everyone will post the numbers today. Here's what most of them won't explain. The reason retatrutide keeps working when other GLP-1s slow down is the glucagon receptor. 1. Semaglutide is GLP-1 alone. 2. Tirzepatide adds GIP. Neither touches glucagon (a hormone produced by the pancreas that raises blood sugar levels by prompting the liver to release stored glucose). Both suppress appetite and improve insulin sensitivity: but neither directly drives energy expenditure the way glucagon does. Glucagon does three things that appetite suppression alone can't: 1. Tells the liver to burn fat directly 2. Raises resting metabolic rate 3. Suppresses new fat creation from carbohydrates That's why semaglutide and tirzepatide trials tend to plateau around 60–72 weeks. The body adapts. Metabolism slows. The drug becomes a brake on intake, not an accelerator on output. Retatrutide (a triple-agonist = a type of medication that simultaneously binds to and activates three different hormone receptors to regulate appetite, blood sugar, and metabolism) It keeps the furnace running on the output side while suppressing the input side. That's the mechanistic reason the extension data was still trending down at 104 weeks while everyone else's curves flatten. The likely downstream consequence — supported but not yet head-to-head proven: more visceral fat loss, better lipid improvements, more durable metabolic remission. The Phase 2 visceral fat data already pointed this direction. The bigger implication for our industry: "GLP-1" was never really a category. It was a placeholder until we had multi-receptor molecules that target the metabolic system as a system. Today's results make that real. Full press release in comments.
Now that we have phase-3 results for retatrutide, it's time to revisit the question: What would happen to obesity if we gave every obese (BMI 30+) person the drug for just one year? Well, the obesity rate would fall by more than 80%! We'd be skinnier than the U.S. circa 1980!

Really strong positioning, Mito Health turning generic lab panels into goal-specific, AI-designed biomarker stacks is seriously well done. I operate heavily in crypto and AI circles and this hits a real gap with high-performance founders, biohackers, and quantified-self operators who don’t want 100 irrelevant markers, they want signal tied to a specific objective. The overlap is strong with optimization-driven communities tracking longevity, hormones, performance, and recovery with precision. I’ve got visibility options to get this trending on the right timelines and we know how to position AI-native diagnostics like this so they become the main conversation around personalized health infrastructure for weeks, shoot me a DM.

There are so many companies offering labs today. What $hims is offering isn’t anything earth shattering. I used @usemitohealth for my labs before $hims and it was cheaper and better
