It's quite sad how inflated software has become. Developers have become so disconnected with the fundamentals of how a computer works and so reliant on libraries and packages that most of the time even they don't know what their code is doing
polymorphism? more like poly-morph-your-hot-path-into-a-virtual-call-and-pray-the-branch-predictor-forgives-you
a simple `+` operation in python uses 180 CPU instructions vs 1 when written in C and is ~130x slower
imagine paying for 100 servers instead of 1 because your ai didn't use numpy for addition and you didn't know about this cost
the second snippet runs 21x slower on a pentium 4 chip because 2d arrays are stored in row-major order, like:
src[0][0], src[0][1], src[0][2], ...
src[1][0], src[1][1], src[1][2], ...
rows are contiguous
columns are not
amusing to see people being surprised by the fact that @BenAffleck is smart
those who feel plagued by not being good enough are often drawn to idealistic worldviews that offer the possibility of purifying and transcending a flawed nature
not everything needs to be up only, parabolic, YC backed, a16z funded bazillion dollar FDV grindset hustleporn VC cuckfuckery unicorn
you can just build things for fun and sell them at a reasonable price, but you won't do that will you?
wonderful ad, but the product itself is the fucking dystopia
why does this remind me of NFT season?
The interface of the future is human.
We’ve raised a $40M Series B from CRV, Scale, Sequoia, and YC to teach machines the art of being human, so that using a computer feels like talking to a friend or a coworker.
And today, I’m excited for y’all to meet the PALs: a new human-computing interface.
PALs are emotionally intelligent, multimodal, and capable of understanding and perceiving. They can see, hear, reason, and even look like us.
We’re releasing our 5 favorite PALs to start. Each PAL has its own distinct personality- from AI assistants to best friends.
PALs:
- Meet us where we are. Face-to-face over video call, on the phone, or even by text.
- Are always thinking. They’re proactive, reach out first, remind you about what you forgot, or might just check in on you.
- Understand us, finally. PALs can see us, understand our tone, emotion, and intent, and communicate in ways that feel more human.
- Evolve with you. PALs have advanced memory, remember your preferences and needs, and adapt themselves over time.
- Are capable. PALs can handle complex tasks — from responding to your emails to moving your schedule around to creating docs and doing research for you.
Science fiction promised us a new human-computer interface, beyond the GUIs of yesterday, a human-like interface that would feel second-nature to use. That future never came, until now.
Charlie’s story brings this idea to life.
We’re excited for you to meet Charlie and his PALs for free at tavus.io

🚨 Action required: Important update for Parachains and Dapps in the ecosystem 🚨
Issues have been identified with certain pallet-xcm extrinsics that could result in assets being trapped after the upcoming Asset Hub Migration.
To prevent this, the SDK has already been patched to disable these problematic extrinsics.
We urge all Chains and Dapps to review this guide and take the necessary actions to ensure uninterrupted operation:
