Athletic commissions are supposed to be independent bodies and the guardians of MMA as a sport. Their job is to protect fighters and enforce the rules of the sport. THAT'S IT. The UFC may want to continue the kickboxing-ification of MMA and discourage wrestling and grappling, but it still has to operate under MMA rules. And those are the rules referees are supposed to enforce. Dan Miragliotta's decision to stand the fighters up in Round 2, when Moicano had one of the most dominant positions you can possibly have in MMA grappling, was absolutely disgraceful. Referees should never be influenced by what promoters want. That stand-up was downright brutal. Dan, you're officiating MMA, not boxing, not kickboxing! The worst part? Newer fans, and probably Dana himself, will applaud that decision. (I won't answer and argue with you if that's your position because it's the wrong one) This was a massive turning point in the fight. And while we all know the NSAC will never hear an appeal over a decision like this because commissions protect their own, Moicano has every reason to be absolutely furious. #UFCVegas123 #UFCTVA
