How did Black women elders manage stress? Well, Rosa Parks practiced (and taught!) yoga. Some scholars see this as an example of survival and self-care in networks — leaning on, and into community as part of self care to sustain yourself. #BlackFact bulletin.hds.harvard.edu/why…

On this day in 1915, biologist Ernest E. Just received the Spingarn Medal for research in fertilization and cell division. Much of our modern understanding of fertilization comes from his research at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. #BlackFact

I spent a summer as a fellow at the Marine Biological Laboratory a few years ago. They’re still a hub for scientific discoveries with over 60 Nobel Laureates affiliated with the MBL. Perhaps in a different time, under a more equitable system Ernest Just would’ve been a laureate

We know now that what they're coming after is not one form of thinking. It's not Black history, it's not intersectionality, it's not critical race theory. They're coming after the entire infrastructure that has been created from the civil rights movement.
Kimberlé Crenshaw emphasizes why the current attacks on diversity, equity & inclusion aren’t new, “Just like the fire seemed like the devastation came from nowhere, & they might think that what we're looking at right now came from nowhere. The conditions have been set for years.”

Universities!! Now is the time to employ 100% of your efforts (marketing, social media, development, alumni relations- everything!) towards this! This effort should not fall on individual researchers alone- but also the institutions who need us to bring in federal funding.
