In 1976 I came up with a bonkers idea to set up an aviation museum at Tangmere. In 1982, after thousands of hours of effort, and thousands of ยฃ personal input, it finally opened. Iโm rather glad I came up with that bonkers idea, and that I worked with (then, very few) others to make it happen, because look at it now! Do visit @MuseumTangmere
Exactly this!
Am I the only one who wants to shout at the government to get its own house in order before it starts telling us to prepare for war?
This is astounding arrogance, and incompetence. The PM told us only weeks back that welfare trumped defence, and the Chancellor has already rowed back on the commitments he made when Secretary of State for Defence.
So why then tell us to do what the government itself is not prepared to do?
We are truly governed by imbeciles.

On a gloomy day it was nice to be reminded of a hot and sunny day at Duxford presenting for the IWMโs Spitfire Day in August. These photos landed with me today. A brilliant day presenting with @BeaverWestminst , John Romain โฆand Spitfires.
So, apparently only four tickets left! Book nowโฆor be bitterly disappointed! ๐๐ ticketsource.com/nfhwa/findiโฆ

A few decorative hops put up as a nod to the heritage of the cottage. Ohโฆand a vintage handmade wooden Fokker DVII. Obvs.
โI need a key for the bootโ
- โCertainly sir. Iโll take a look. Would you like to bring your car over?โ
Last time I was up on Hampstead Heath, St Paulโs Cathedral was the most prominent building on the skyline. I guess that must have been shortly after Sir Christopher Wren finished it, then.

So itโs a #HAPPYBIRTHDAY to AA810 today! Her journey back to the skies continues and I hope to see her back in the air before the 10th anniversary of her restoration starting. Spread the word and letโs see some love for the Soitfire in blue! @almurray @MrJamesMay @DrHelenFry
Don't forget to do what Mr Gillingham says, people!๐
This is going to be great!
What a story - and you will have the chance to buy the book about the rescue and restorations on the night too, written by Andyโs โPartner in DH Nineโ, Guy Black!
Book yourselves in now:

I had completely forgotten that a good few years ago I helped source a Battle of Britain lace panel for the RNZAF museum and helped ensure it arrived there from the UK - quite an epic operation. There are a few others around, and one used to be on display at the @RAFMUSEUM They are absolutely huge. And utterly stunning! (And isn't that a Robert Taylor print on the wall of 'Battle of Britain VC'?)
You know that you absolutely need to purchase these. At once! Titles from @sauldavid66 and...err...some other bloke. ๐

If you are free on 28 October, make sure you book your tickets for this event! @GreatWarHuts @Taff_Gillingham You won't want to miss it ๐greatwarhuts.org/event-detaiโฆ
I'll bet that @nickfshort fellow has contrived to be away! ๐
Oh no! Iโve been editing and acting as consultant editor for a German military history magazine under entirely false pretences. We learn Emily Thorberry was gushing in her welcome to a visiting contingent of MPs from the Bundestag, telling them: 'Germany is, and always has been, a key ally...' Damn!
In the New Forest area on 7 November? If so, why not book a ticket for my talk on the subject of Sgt Pilot โPaddyโ Adair, a Hurricane pilot of 213 Sqn flying from RAF Tangmere who was shot down and killed at Widley on 6 November 1940. His is the first name, alphabetically, on the Battle of Britain roll. His is also a fascinating story as he remains missing with no known grave. Tickets here: nfhwa.org/speakers/ Come along to support the New Forest & Hampshire Wartime Association. (Please share! Thank you)
