34yrs ago today the British political landscape would change forever due to the historic election of these 3 POWERHOUSE Black MPs: Lord Paul Boteng, @HackneyAbbott & the late great Bernie Grant MP!

Best of luck to the following Black male Labour members who are running for Parliamentary selection during the weekend: @peterbabudu and @JohnsonSitu in Camberwell and Peckham And @AshleyBertie_ in Wolverhampton North East Some great members who would be excellent PPCs!

πŸ‘€πŸ‘€ This is a failure of long-term planning from the Party and the movement. We must use this opportunity to fix it.
Replying to @tomorrowsmps
One stat worrying Labour bigwigs right now is that no black men are being selected. Someone just told me that Labour has not chosen a black man in a winnable seat since Clive Lewis in Norwich in 2011. I’ve not had time to do a proper check, but it’s astonishing if true.

When the Labour party speaks to tackling all forms of racism, I expect that to include Islamophobia and Anti-Black racism. Don't dismiss or belittle the experiences of thousands of members and HQ staff! It requires debate and addressing.
Some people seriously believe that a Labour Party looking to show it is ready for government should waste time debating the Forde Report - an utter irrelevance to 99 per cent of the UK - at its annual conference?

Two years on from this moment. Black Men finally have a voice on Labour’s NEC, this is an important step towards greater representation. Congratulations @AbdiDuale_
Thread: As the 2020 Labour NEC elections get underway, the issue of black representation has been under the spotlight. And we've been asked multiple times "who was the last black man on the NEC?" We decided to look into that. The result was shocking.

But, representation is essential for a reason. We look forward to working with Abdi and the new NEC to implement the Forde Report as much as possible and create a Party ready to represent all of us at the next General Election.

Labour should look like the country it seeks to represent. We need change to make that happen. My thoughts below:
"Having read the findings of the Forde inquiry this week... I have been saddened to see that much of this discussion has missed the real impact this report." Labour should be the party of equality – now, it is time to act like it, @KayaJunction writes labourlist.org/2022/07/the-l…

It's quite despicable that on Race Equality Week, the Shadow Justice Secretary suggested an policy that will undoubtedly hurt minorities and will continue the damaging War on Drugs.

While we are embroiled in Downing Street parties, ethnic minority people across the UK are facing one of the most significant threats to their civil rights in recent memory. An onslaught of legislation is in parliament this month, here's what you need to know 🧡

So proud of my bro @ChristianKamali for writing this - I just had to buy as many copies as I could. A book like this will prove invaluable to many especially those of us who take on profit hungry landlords, unfair employers & our unjust justice system.
Disgraceful. There's no other way to describe this experience. The really sad part of this, we hear this from black Labour councillors up and down the country. The treatment of Black Councillors, who are advocates for the Labour movement in their communities, must change.

We are happy to hear that the Forde Report will shared with the NEC in January. There are still a lot of questions that must be answered by the Party. We hope the Findings of the Forde inquiry will help us find these answers. labourlist.org/2021/11/labou…
