Taking Peacebuilding to the Cattle Camps: Malou Pech and Ngap Communities Engage in Grassroots Reconciliation Under the @RSRTF Kongkoc Consortium's Reconciliation Pillar, led by Peace Canal, a grassroots peace engagement between the Malou Pech and Ngap communities has successfully concluded at Ameth Allel Cattle Camp. This engagement reflects an important shift in our peacebuilding approach: moving beyond conventional town hall meetings and taking peace dialogues directly to cattle camps, where the primary actors in pastoralist conflicts live, interact, and make decisions that influence peace and security. While town hall meetings remain important for engaging authorities and community leaders, lasting peace requires direct engagement with cattle camp youth, particularly those who are often at the centre of cattle-related disputes, revenge attacks, and competition over natural resources. By bringing dialogue closer to the grassroots, the Kongkoc Consortium and other peace partners are creating opportunities for those most affected by conflict to openly discuss their differences, take ownership of peace commitments, and identify practical solutions that reflect their daily realities. At Ameth Allel Cattle Camp, members of the Malou Pech and Ngap communities came together to reflect on the root causes of recurring conflicts and explore practical ways to strengthen peaceful coexistence. Discussions focused on preventing cattle theft and revenge killings, managing grazing routes and access to water, protecting farms and civilian property, strengthening traditional conflict resolution mechanisms, improving early warning and information sharing, and promoting meaningful participation of women and youth in peacebuilding. Participants also explored the establishment of a joint youth coordination mechanism, shared peace resolutions, and follow-up actions to strengthen cooperation among cattle camp youth, chiefs, elders, peace committees, and local authorities. Peace must not end with a meeting; it must be reflected in our daily actions. We call upon the youth of Malou Pech and Ngap to reject revenge killings, cattle theft, and all forms of violence. We equally encourage chiefs, elders, women, community leaders, and local authorities to sustain dialogue, address emerging tensions early, and hold individuals accountable for actions that threaten peaceful coexistence. The real success of this engagement will not be measured by the number of people who attended, but by the commitments translated into action, disputes resolved peacefully, retaliatory attacks prevented, and relationships rebuilt between the two communities. Our experience continues to demonstrate that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through town hall resolutions alone. It must be built and sustained at the grassroots, particularly in cattle camps where the primary actors can become champions of peace rather than drivers of conflict. Peace begins with the people, and lasting peace is sustained by the communities themselves. #PeaceCanal #RSRTFKongkocConsortium #GrassrootsPeacebuilding #CattleCampEngagements #CommunityLedReconciliation #YouthForPeace #PeacefulCoexistence #SouthSudan #SustainablePeace

In 2022, while participating in the @kectil programme, we were tasked with writing a speech that would be delivered at our funeral; reflecting on what we had achieved in life and what we hoped to be remembered for. At first glance, it seemed like a simple writing exercise. It wasn't. Many participants struggled with it, especially our Indian colleagues. During our closing discussions, the Executive Director, Sherry Knowles, asked us which part of the programme had challenged us the most. There were voices all over about the funeral speech assignment. Some participants admitted they could not bring themselves to write it at all. Others spent days wrestling with the emotional and psychological weight of imagining their own absence. Recently, that memory came back to me unexpectedly. While working on our organisation's filing system manual and database, I contacted one of our contractors and requested all information related to our domain and digital assets. To me, it was a straightforward administrative exercise aimed at strengthening institutional memory and ensuring continuity of operations. When he asked why, I explained that critical information should never reside with one individual alone. "Anything can happen," I said. "God forbid, but in the event of someone's demise, recovering such information could become a major challenge." His reaction caught me off guard. He was visibly shocked and remarked that he had been in the business since 2015 and none of his clients had ever posed the question in that way. Initially, I did not fully understand his reaction. Then I remembered the Kectil assignment. As human beings, we are generally comfortable planning for success, growth, expansion, and opportunity. Far fewer of us are comfortable planning for our own absence. Yet some of the most resilient institutions, organisations, and communities are built precisely because people are willing to confront that uncomfortable reality. Succession planning is not pessimism. Documentation is not distrust. Knowledge management is not bureaucracy. They are acts of responsibility. Whether in leadership, business, government, family, or community organisations, we do not build truly sustainable systems when everything depends on our constant presence. We build sustainable systems when things can continue to function even when we are no longer there. Perhaps that is why the funeral speech assignment was so difficult. It forced us to answer a question many of us spend our lives avoiding: "๐‘ฐ๐’‡ ๐‘ฐ ๐’˜๐’†๐’“๐’† ๐’ˆ๐’๐’๐’† ๐’•๐’๐’Ž๐’๐’“๐’“๐’๐’˜, ๐’˜๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’๐’†๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’„๐’š ๐’˜๐’๐’–๐’๐’… โ€ #Leadership #Legacy #KnowledgeManagement #SuccessionPlanning #InstitutionBuilding #OrganisationalDevelopment #Kectil #LeadershipDevelopment #Governance

On June 14th, 2029, I will be marking my ten years in my marketing career. Indeed, itโ€™s never been an easy journey, I must say. Some brands and individuals have rejected me; I have refused to work with others, and Iโ€™ve agreed to collaborate with several. #MASSS #MarketingSSD
