Happy 100th Birthday to Murasaki Fujima, one of the Showa era’s most charismatic actresses.💜
(May 24, 1923 - March 27, 2009)
Effervescent in Kinoshita’s “Thus Another Day” and “Farewell to Spring” (both @criterionchannl), she also rocked Japan’s dance world.

…the spectacular Murasaki Fujima, so memorable in Kinoshita’s “Thus Another Day” (1959, here terrorized by Kôji Mitsui) and many other films, in addition to her contributions to Japanese traditional dance.

Remembering radiant Murasaki Fujima on #InternationalDanceDay. Little-seen in the West, she made 75+ films & was a major figure in Japanese traditional dance. She’s terrific in color in Kinoshita’s “Thus Another Day“ & “Farewell to Spring” (both ‘59) on @criterionchannl. #藤間紫
