இன்றைய கண்டியின் பண்டைய பெயர் ‘செங்கடங்கல்’. ஆகும். குறுநாகல், என்பதும் தமிழ்ப் பெயரே. கல் என ஊர்ப்பெயரில் வந்தால் அது மலையுள்ள பகுதி எனப்பொருளாம். இப்பொழுது அது குருனேகல என மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது .
அவ்வாறே வவுனியா மாவட்டத்தில் ஓடிய, மகாவம்ச போன்ற சிங்கள வரலாறு நூல்களில் கூட குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருக்கும் ஓர் நதி 'கடம்ப நதி' ஆகும். இது தமிழரின் வரலாறுத் தொன்மையுடன் தொடர்பு பட்டிருக்கிறது.
கடம்ப மரங்கள் நின்ற பகுதிகளூடாக ஓடியதால் இதற்குக் கடம்ப நதி என்று பெயர். கடம்ப மரம் தென்னாசிய நாடுகளில் மட்டும் உள்ள மரம். தமிழர்களோடு இம்மரத்திற்கு நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு இருக்கிறது. கடம்பமரம் சங்கத்தமிழரின் பொருளாதாரத்திற்குக் கைகொடுத்திருக்கிறது. அதனால் அரசர் கடம்பமரத்தை தமது காவல் மரமாகப் போற்றினர். சங்ககால அரசர்கள் தமது வெற்றியின் பெருமிதத்தைக் காட்ட, பகை அரசர்களின் காவல்மரமான கடம்பமரத்தை வெட்டி முரசு செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். அதனை
“சால் பெருந்தானைச் சேரலாதன்
மால் கடல் ஓட்டி கடம்பு அறுத்து இயற்றிய
பண்ணமை முரசின் கண் அதிர்ந்தன்ன”
- (அகம்: 347: 3 - 5)
என அகநானூறு சொல்கிறது.
சங்க இலக்கியம் யாவுமே கடம்பமலர் பற்றிப் பேசுகின்றன. அன்றைய தமிழர் கடம்பமரத்தின் உட்பட்டையின் நாரில் கயிறு திரித்து யானையைக் கூடக் கட்டி இருக்கிறார்கள்.
சரி, என்ன கோதாரிக்கு இப்ப இதெல்லாம் அலம்புறாய் எண்டு நீங்கள் நினைக்கிறது விளங்குது.
வவுனியா மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள தந்திரிமலைக்கு அருகே, புதிதாகத் (2021) தொடங்கப்பட்ட மல்வத்து ஓய நீர்தேக்கத்திட்டம் நிறைவுபெற்று, அங்கிருந்த ஏறக்குறைய 450 தமிழ்குடும்பங்கள் என்ன ஆனார்கள் என்பது தெரியவில்லை என்ற செய்தியை வாசித்தேன்.. கப்பச்சிகுளம் என்ற இடத்தில அவர்களுக்குப் புதிய காணி வழங்கப்பட உள்ளதாக அப்போது தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டதாம். அதுவும் வாழ முடியாத சதுப்பு நிலப் பகுதியாம்.
1960 ஆம் ஆண்டு தந்திரிமலையில் புதிதாக அமைக்கப்பட்ட சிறிய விகாரைக்கு வந்த பௌத்த பிக்கு தொடங்கிய திட்டமே இந்த மல்வத்து ஓய திட்டம். தவிபு இருக்கும்வரை இது நிறுத்தப்பட்டு இருந்தது. இப்போது தமிழர்கள் விரட்டப்பட்டு இடம் முற்றுமுழுதாக அவர்கள் கைக்குப் போய்விட்டது.
தமிழர் வரலாறுடன் தொடர்புபட்ட நதியென #கடம்பநதியைச் சொன்னேன் அல்லவா. அந்தக் கடம்ப நதிதான் பின்னாளில் #அருவிஆறு என வழங்கப்பட்டு, 1960 தொடக்கம் சிங்களவரால் #மல்வத்துஓய வாகி நிற்கிறது.
யோசிக்கும்போது நெஞ்சு வெடிக்குதா ? .... வல்வெட்டித்துறை வேலுப்பிள்ளையரின்ர மகன் இருந்திருந்தால் இப்ப சிங்களவனுக்கு நெஞ்சு வெடிச்சிருக்கும். என்ன செய்யுறது . காலக்கொடுமை.

A Message of Appreciation to the Honourable @Shaun_Chen MP
On behalf of Voice of Global Tamil Rights, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Honourable Shaun Chen, Member of Parliament for Scarborough North, for his years of public service and his continued engagement with the Eelam Tamil community in Canada.
Over the years, Mr. Chen has attended numerous community events organized by our organization and has consistently demonstrated his willingness to listen to the concerns, aspirations, and perspectives of Eelam Tamils.
We particularly acknowledge and appreciate his role in presenting Petition e-5058 (Petition No. 441-0287) in the House of Commons on November 20, 2024. This was an important moment for raising issues of significance to the Eelam Tamil community on the parliamentary record.
Among other matters, the petition called upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Invoke Canada’s responsibilities on two grounds – as an injured State party on behalf of its citizens of Eelam Tamil heritage and as a State party exercising erga omnes partes obligation – to initiate proceedings against the Republic of Sri Lanka at the International Court of Justice to investigate that State’s responsibility on Tamil genocide under the Convention’s Article IX covering entire temporal jurisdiction; and
2. Call for an internationally administered referendum among the people in the occupied homeland and the diaspora, to decide on the creation of an independent and sovereign state of Tamil Eelam.
By presenting the petition in the House of Commons, Mr. Chen provided an important parliamentary avenue for these concerns to be formally brought before Canada’s federal legislature.
As Mr. Chen prepares to conclude his tenure as Member of Parliament, we take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude for his years of dedicated public service, his accessibility to our community, and his willingness to engage with issues of importance to Eelam Tamils in Canada.
We sincerely thank him for his support and for the meaningful role he has played in engaging with our community. We wish the Honourable Shaun Chen and his family good health, happiness, continued success, and fulfilment in the next chapter of his life.
