Hi @cardiffcouncil. I phoned as we’ve a spare large bin & asked if it could be collected & used elsewhere. Details were taken & I was told to leave the bin out & it would be picked up by CC. I did this and instead of collecting it you’ve threatened a fine for the bin being out 🙃

This all seems a bit silly. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing kind of stuff. Can you come and collect it please? And if you could not fine us for doing as you told us to do, that would be great too. Thanks 👍

Quick, listen to this before the storm comes and you don’t have any electricity ⚡️ m.youtube.com/watch?v=RVzuxx…
Don’t come here often as too exhausting! But anyone following from @SNSBLDNCHL days may enjoy new tune from us. Afrobashment vibe @fireboydml Peru remix. Give it a spin! Maybe of interest @kullijhan @MarvinSparks @GabrielHeatwave & production tips welcome! m.youtube.com/watch?v=RVzuxx…

By applying acoustic field and magnetic field to a magnetised artificial cell, membrane tension can be induced to activate MscL, enabling Ca2+ flux & thus fluorescence. No protein = no flux, protein but no magnet = no flux. So mag = protein on/off switch! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

We've a new pre-print "Building programmable multicompartment artificial cells incorporating remotely activated protein channels using microfluidics and acoustic levitation" up on @biorxivpreprint. Great effort by @JinLi_AOR on this work. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Haven't been on here much, mainly due to recovering from longcovid and it being exhausting. Despite all that, v.pleased with our latest collaborative work (aptly) on rapid SARS-CoV-2 variant detection with ability to discriminate single nucleotide changes. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Some 2020/2021 thoughts from a virologist on #COVID19 that have left me pretty humbled. Despite 2 years of preparation we couldn't effectively delay #Omicron's global spread 🌎🌍🌏. We were pretty lucky a #Delta-like virus didn't emerge before vaccines 💉.

We've seen exceptionally rapid spread of Omicron in South Africa. Although we should expect this rapid spread to follow in other geographies, we've mostly lacked data to confirm this until recently. 1/21 xitter.cf/trvrb/status/146724588…
As the Omicron epidemic continues to expand in South Africa and as case counts and sequencing data continues to come in, we can better estimate the current transmission rate of Omicron. 1/19

Just be be clear on something as I'm still awake, this was better than I expected of Omicron. The fact that it still needs the ACE2 receptor and that escape is incomplete means its a tractable problem with the tools we got

It’s great to see politicians so excited by science that they want to do experiments. But perhaps they should start with smaller scale ones…

Fascinating emergent properties of ant behaviour. The building of support scaffold by collections of ants linking together when traversing a common route, driven entirely by individual ant decision making in response to their own individual circumstances of if they slip or not.
After a long wait, I'm excited to share new research on ants, infrastructure, and resilience 🐜 Our @PNASNews paper shows army ants self-assemble into “scaffolds” that keep others from falling – an adaptive collective response emerging from individual sensing and decisions (1/7)

A great example of how a collection of anything following simple individual rules can give rise to otherwise unanticipated emergent properties at a larger scale.

Alright, since folks are commenting on the Guardian article calling Bayes Theorem "obscure", here's a story about doctors, Bayes Theorem, log scales, and learning and listening from people even when they don't know the thing you know.
The contrast between this and the challenges universities, academics, PPE suppliers and even proper ventilator manufacturers faced and publicly reported at the time in their efforts to assist in the emergency should be to the permanent shame of this Gov. In the bin with them all.

Earlier, I've put it to a German club official that the Super League 12 must have some really clever ideas to get around all the obstacles, relative to the huge reputational risk they're facing. Answer: "Never underestimate the incompetence of people."
