Has the U.S. debt spiral passed the point of no return?
Daniel Diaz sits down with Austrian economist @DrMarkThornton Senior Fellow at The @Mises Institute, host of Minor Issues, and author of The Skyscraper Curse.
Decades after warning about the housing bubble back in 2004, Dr. Thornton breaks down the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury's impossible catch-22, why 40% of the S&P 500 is concentrated in an artificial tech bubble and how citizens can practically transition from holding paper fiat to spending and saving in real sound money.
Premieres TOMORROW at 7pm EST!

In 1844, sending a letter between Boston and New York via the U.S. Post Office cost 18.75¢ (nearly a third of a laborer’s daily wage) to subsidize bureaucratic patronage.
Seeing that steam and rail had collapsed transit costs, Lysander Spooner founded the American Letter Mail Company, offering the same route for 6.25¢ (down to 5¢ in bulk) with same-day dispatch.
He exposed a core public-choice truth: state monopolies exist to protect agencies from competition, not consumers from failure.
Postmaster General unsurprisingly responded with state coercion. Federal marshals arrested Spooner’s couriers, and regulators bullied rail operators into boycotting his mailbags.
When Spooner pushed back in court, arguing that constitutional authorization to "establish" post offices did not mean a sovereign right to ban voluntary trade, Congress bypassed the legal fight entirely.
Through the Postal Acts of 1845 and 1851, the federal government resolved the crisis in classic cartel fashion: it slashed its own rates to match Spooner’s pricing, drained his capital through endless litigation, and passed statutory laws permanently criminalizing private letter delivery.
The state adopted the market's price discovery, took credit for the reform, and outlawed the competition that forced it.
The Spooner affair is a foundational case study in institutional sclerosis.
Understanding how distributed, voluntary systems dismantle artificial friction is the first step toward building institutions capable of surviving the next century.

How does $1,000 in the bank become $10,000 in the economy?
1. You deposit $1,000.
2. The bank keeps $100 in your account for reserves (10% reserve).
3. The bank "creates" $900 out of thin air via a book entry called "Bank Credit" giving you an IOU, and loans out your $900 to someone else.
4. Now there is $1,900 in circulation out of the initial $1,000 deposit.
5. That person receives your $900 from the bank as a loan, then they deposit those funds into their account.
6. The bank keeps $90 in their account for reserves (10% reserve).
7. The bank "creates" $810 out of thin air via a book entry called "Bank Credit" giving them an IOU, and loans out your $810 to someone else.
8. Now there is $2,710 in circulation from your initial $1,000 deposit.
9. The cycle repeats until your $1k supports $10k in "currency."
95-98% of all U.S. Dollars in circulation are created by bank credit.
It’s an inverted pyramid of debt. If even a small percentage of depositors ask for their dollars back, the pyramid collapses instantly.
We need a "Sound Monetary Order."
This requires the complete removal of political and banker interventions in currency production. Let the market determine the supply of money and money substitutes.
To stop the painful bust, you must stop the fake boom. To stop the boom, you must take the printing press away from the politicians and banks.
Sound Money is Honest Money. Gold and Silver can't be faked, printed, or inflated.

How is currency born? It is borrowed into existence.
As the Fed admitted in its 1977 "Putting It Simply" paper, they create currency by writing checks against zero balances. Every dollar in your pocket is a piece of debt that carries interest, ensuring the total debt can never actually be paid back.

Starting off the weak positive in metals.
*10 yr treasury rise to just below 5.3%
*Consumer confidence 12 yr low of 81.9
*Redbook consumer sales fell to 2023 levels
*Only 29k jobs created (100k needed to breakeven)
The Fed may have no choice but to start cutting rates into a weakening economy. We'll see what happens next.
"How high will gold go?" is the wrong question.
If gold hits $1 million/oz but coffee costs $2 thousand/cup, you’ve gained nothing. Gold doesn't "go up," it maintains it purchasing power; the dollar simply "goes down."
Measure your wealth in ounces of gold and silver, they protect your Purchasing Power, don't measure your wealth in dollars, its just paper that steals your Purchasing Power.
The "Wage-Price Spiral" is a myth politicians use to blame you for their mistakes.
Governments love to say inflation happens because workers want higher wages or businesses are "greedy." Nonsense.
Unions can't print currency. Walmart can't print currency. Only the Fed can expand the currency supply. Wages chasing prices is the result of inflation, not the cause.
Inflation is the fever, not the virus.
