You’re telling the truth in its whole. This problem starts right from our schools in the north. We extremely lack the art of communication. We don’t know how to present ourselves but we’re heavily taught to ‘cram’ everything from English, math/programming to chemistry, biology..

It is simple, really, from what I observed. We have the practical skills but are tremendously lacking in the basic skills to discuss it: communication, self-esteem that translates to confidence, and a few other things. We fear the spotlight, a crippling habit that makes us…

I made the same discovery when I found myself in the midst of Top students across Nigeria invited by Shell to their office in Marina, Lagos. I personally had some mentorship from my parents and have been lived across Nigeria, so I was pretty confident, relaxed and outspoken. However, my northern counterparts, although equally brilliant as everyone, Were shy, humble/timid, less ambitious, and didn't draw any attention to themselves.

Once you realize that your surname or that "uncle" can't get you a solid government job, stop wasting time hoping for one. Hustle and hustle. Look elsewhere. Hustle. The private sector can be very rewarding - if you're not lazy.

Don’t know very much about IT, but this is applicable to almost all other areas in the private sector. You hardly see our people excel in the private sector. The very few that do, even in the public sector, they create huge barriers for others to scale. It is sickening at times. We have so much respect that we become timid. We can’t engage our elders. We mostly emphasize our misunderstanding of religion as an excuse for us to be mediocre. Our elders are so conscious of their egos that they openly engage with the young. You do something only for someone to say, “shi wannan waye ubansa?”. Surprisingly, even some of the educated don’t try to narrow down these gaps. They don’t do things that will make the young to dream, to dare, and to go for the best. It is who do I oppress, who do I arrest, or who should I match. There are so many reasons for this. Lack of education, poverty, lack of mobility, wrong understanding of religion and so on. Solution lies within all of us; to do our parts and remember that we are representing the region and our people whenever we have the opportunity to be in the spotlight. To be exceptional wherever we find ourselves and make sure we serve as examples that not everyone is mediocre. This why some of us do what we do, perhaps, others will see reasons to believe that they too can achieve their potentials and go beyond what is normal.

Nigerians amuse me — we're too poor for the lack of dignity and pride we assert on labour. Taxi drivers are hot cakes in every major city on the planet except in the country where, ironically, the minimum wage is 77k. Alaji sai an sake zama akan halin ƴan Nijeriya!
I remember when we went to Kaduna and Sada ordered a Bolt. Wallahi the driver happened to be a Twitter influencer, and him and Sada were even friends on here. They had each other’s contacts too, but da face mask ya zo🤣🤣🤣he acted like he didn’t know her throughout the ride,

Certifications are one form of evidence of knowledge, but knowledge does not require certification to exist. And even after acquiring it, the extent of your understanding becomes clearer when you must explain it, apply it or recognise where it no longer holds. You can finish a course before discovering what you failed to understand.

Nobody warned me that working a 9-5 job basically means you cannot see the dentist, doctor, or handle any appointments, because they are open when you are still at work, and when you get off work, they are closed.
