Source Grok:
What OpenSecrets and similar trackers report as “BlackRock,” “Vanguard,” or “State Street” contributions is money that comes from two other sources:
Employee-funded PACs — employees voluntarily put their own money into a company PAC, which then donates to candidates. The company may administer the PAC but does not fund it with corporate cash.
Personal donations by employees and executives — individuals give from their own bank accounts and list their employer when they do so. Trackers group those gifts under the employer’s name.
So when the data shows BlackRock-associated giving of roughly $2.6 million in 2024 (about 65% to Democrats), or smaller totals for the other two firms, it is not BlackRock/Vanguard/State Street the corporations writing corporate checks. It is their people (via PACs or personal checks) doing so. The firms themselves make almost no direct political contributions beyond occasional state-level ballot measures.
That is the distinction. The numbers reflect associated employee and PAC activity, not corporate treasury spending.
