We wanted to play La Bamba instead they told us to play this shit #TOTP

Campaigning equation: public pressure + persistence = leverage …. Enough leverage = tipping point = win. If this happened with the swift brick campaign we would easily be able to get the government to mandate swift bricks. BE the change because it won’t happen without you.
BREAKING NEWS: Network Rail unblocked the swift homes because of the strength of feeling shown by THOUSANDS of people, led by @DeborahPitman. Thanks to @GreenJennyJones @ZacGoldsmith @DeborahMeaden @PamAyres & Transport Minister Lord Hendy
I had a nice trip to see the waxwings at Goole yesterday.

The interactions between the hen harriers and other birds on the Humber has been interesting (photos on the blog) martin-standley.squarespace.…
A few photos below of a skirmish between 2 males.
I had a very nice day on the Humber last week, a close flyby from this magnificent hen harrier was the highlight.

Its been a great Autumn for raptors on The Humber. The three male hen harriers have been the undoubted highlight but the supporting cast as always has been very good.

What a cracking day at Kilnsea (East Yorkshire) on friday. Pallas's and Yellow-Browed wablers along with a Firecrest (at one point they were all in the same bush!)
Spurn magic!

It’s a double loss for wildlife. Swift bricks haven’t been mandated and where they are ( by virtue of planning conditions) developers aren’t putting them in anyway as this report published by the Royal Town Planning Institute shows rtpi.org.uk/new-from-the-rtp…
These are the people who blocked the swift brick amendment last night. 102 Labour Peers thanks to the rather extreme 3 line whip which just goes to show how much #Labour do NOT want to help nature let alone swifts. Normally a 3 line whip is used for fairly extreme amendments.

This is appalling. What on earth was the reason for the three-line whip to vote this down? The Labour party supported the swift brick amendment when it was tabled on Conservative government legislation in 2023. Has the government offered an explanation for blocking it now?
#birds
Swifts fly thousands of miles to breed in the UK—only to find their nest sites blocked up.
Their ancient forests with nest hollows now gone, they relied on cavities in buildings, but these, too, have disappeared.
To stop their steep 2/3rds decline since 1995, an inexpensive swift brick nest box was proposed to be incorporated by law into new buildings—also helping other red-listed cavity nesting bird species.
But in a vote last night, UK Labour destroyed a golden opportunity to do this small thing for one of the most nature-depleted countries in Europe.
Speaking as a retired construction project manager I am appalled that this government hasn’t mandated swift bricks. They are neither technically demanding nor significantly expensive. I am even more outraged that britbuild-magazine.co.uk/beh… is actually bragging about it! Shameful.

HUGE HUGE NEWS PLEASE READ:
We're delighted to say that for the past 6 months Protect the Wild has gone undercover into the British bird shooting industry. To our knowledge this is the largest most extensive piece of investigative work ever conducted. Dozens of cameras placed at multiple locations. An undercover employee placed at a particular facility for two weeks filming everything.
This will send shockwaves through the shooting industry like never before. This is just the beginning. All will be released in the coming days.
I had a nice few hours on the humber bank yesterday. I saw one of the recently reported hen harriers for a grand total of 5 minutes in 8 hours, however one flight sequence allowed for some reasonable photos.
