We are devastated by the bus crash in northeast Calgary that has taken the lives of three people and injured at least 16 others. We’re thinking of the victims and everyone who loves them, and of the members of ATU Local 583 and the first responders who were on the scene. 🕊️❤️🩹
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A majority of Albertans don’t want Danielle Smith’s referendum at all, and most of those who are angry or frustrated about it blame her for calling it, according to a new Abacus Data survey for the Alberta Federation of Labour.

Six in 10 Albertans are concerned about outside interference in the referendum, a worry shared by majorities of both UCP and NDP supporters. Of those concerned, 74% are worried about the U.S. government and 46% about dark money groups funded by American billionaires.
About half of Albertans think it’s likely the U.S. will try to make Alberta the 51st state after the vote, and 49% believe it’s possible UCP government members are under the influence of foreign actors.
Albertans want a government that works for them. 7 in 10 back a $20 minimum wage adjusted for inflation, including 65% of UCP supporters, while 67% support rent control and 62% want electricity providers re-regulated.
That’s why tomorrow, Saturday Oct 17, thousands of Albertans are taking to the streets in a coordinated day of protest across the province, and on Sunday Oct 18, we’re rallying at the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton.

On Monday, Albertans vote on whether to begin the process of breaking up the country, on a ballot Danielle Smith stacked with nine more questions built around her agenda.
This weekend, tens of thousands of Albertans who reject all of it are marching in 15+ cities on Saturday, followed by a huge rally at the Legislature in Edmonton on Sunday.
We will not stand idly by as they try to bring Trump’s politics to our province, and you shouldn’t either. Don’t stand on the sidelines and watch history happen around you. Join it.

🚨 BREAKING: Thousands of Albertans are set to rally AGAINST separation at the Alberta Legislature on Sunday, October 18, one day before the vote.
It follows Saturday, October 17, when Albertans across the province take to the streets against separation and the UCP during a province-wide Day of Protest.
Albertans didn’t ask for this referendum. They asked for affordable lives and working hospitals.
Workers can’t afford rent, seniors are waiting months for care, and schools are bursting at the seams. Public land is being handed over to AI data centres that guzzle water and electricity while Albertans pay the bills.
And instead of fixing any of it, the government responsible is pushing a referendum that could tear Alberta out of Canada, putting our pensions, healthcare coverage, Treaty rights, and Charter protections on the line.
October 17 and 18 are the moment to stand up. The cost of living, public healthcare, workers’ rights, and our place in Canada are all on the line, and Albertans are fighting back.
On Saturday, October 17, march with your community in the Day of Protest. On Sunday, October 18, rally at the Legislature.

Five provinces raised their minimum wage today.
Ontario: $17.95
PEI: $17.30
Nova Scotia: $17.00
Manitoba: $16.40
Saskatchewan: $15.70
Alberta's minimum wage , the lowest in Canada, has been frozen at $15 an hour since October 1, 2018.
Since 2019, every other province has raised its minimum wage by between 25 and 50 percent while Alberta's hasn't moved, and with prices up 25% over that time, minimum wage workers here have seen their real standard of living fall by 20%, according to economist Jim Stanford.
