Correct. Prison isn't a rehabilitation program. Its primary function is to protect the public (punishment is an incidental consequence of confinement, imo), not reform those who pose a danger to it.

As a school leader–a child demonstrating unprovoked violence is a turning point in that child’s tenure at the school. Either the parent gets on board with immediate wraparound services or I take steps to remove the child from campus.

I’ve never been particularly sympathetic toward children once they exhibit deeply disordered and destructive behavior. I can empathize with the circumstances that shaped them, but once that behavior is actualized, I have little interest in or expectation of rehabilitation. High risk, low reward. The greater good of many will always supersede that of one.
