Average viewership down 11% overall viewership is actually up The talent spreading out means more games are being watched by people not just a select few

The decline of the sport is inevitable. Viewership down 11% compared to last year, but we won’t see the decline affect until 2032-2035 imo

The old bowl system did not provide broad championship access. It provided broad postseason validation. It allowed a large number of programs — not five or six, not 12, but 30-plus in a given year — to plausibly end the season believing they had accomplished something meaningful. The modern playoff system has taken much of that meaning and concentrated it into one event. So when I say the postseason format needs some reasonable relationship to the size of the group actually investing and trying to matter, I do not mean the old system was a clean title-access machine. It obviously was not. I mean the old system had enough meaningful postseason outcomes to support the number of programs trying to define themselves as successful. Now that the playoff has swallowed so much of that meaning, playoff access has to carry more of the burden. You cannot devalue the bowls, weaken conference-title games, centralize the entire sport around the CFP, and then tell 30 or 40 serious programs that 12 spots is enough because the rest of the postseason technically still exists while simultaneously telling them making a bowl doesn’t matter.
CFP leaders are closer than ever to expanding to a 24-team playoff. They are talking buyouts of conference title games and scheduling logistics of doubling the field. Foregone conclusion? “If we can get a decent (TV) deal, we are definitely going to 24.” bit.ly/4jv642P

Typical. Two SEC teams play. Winning team moves up 14. Losing team only falls six. Net gain of 8. Two ACC teams play. Winning team moves into “others receiving votes” Losing teams moves right behind them in “others receiving votes”. Net loss of 14.

Just because there are small markets who find a way to win or big markets who spend poorly and lose doesn’t mean that MLB should operate in a way that provides a major advantage to some teams and allows them to make up for mistakes in a way others can’t.
Two teams in MLB at .600: Brewers and Rays. Combined payroll $200 million less than Dodgers. But we still need a lockout to save baseball?

Oh no 😱 If only the MLB players were completely guaranteed every dollar in their contract no matter their performance. Now they get to sit at home an get paid, the horror 😱
You report to training camp tomorrow and if your pitching velocity isn't at 80-85% of max effort (3 to 5 mph below peak showcase velocity) don't bother returning for day two.

Mind you this was the only way to reply to your comment, because the other guy was so spineless he couldn’t handle a single counter argument.

Here a better idea, we get back to doing college athletics which is meant to be BIG and diverse with schools from all across America both large and small instead of trying to monopolize college athletics and turn it into some bastardized NFL junior league SAVE COLLEGE ATHLETICS

We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old. We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.

The thing about Pate, who I very much like and respect. He's still ultimately an SEC guy who grew up watching SEC football. He's never had to experience watching his team get screwed over by biased playoff committees or AP voters (maybe he thinks he has, but he hasn't) He's never experienced watching his favorite annual rivalry games be canceled due to realignment (the core of the SEC has stayed together for 100+ years) He's never had to wonder if his favorite team will be relegated to a G5 despite decades of of history and elite fan support because the media doesn't consider you or your conference as "worthy" He's never wondered what might happen to the college town (and the people) he loves if the main economic engine gets kneecaped in the name of TV revenue. It's like if you've never seen or experienced tragedy in your life. You might think you know what it looks like (you don't) You might think you can understand how it feels (you can't) If you're watching events unfold from a safe distance, even if you don't like or agree with the events that are unfolding but the part of you that feels safe enough to not worry about it will find ways to justify it.
"CFP expansion creates more meaningful games" is the biggest lie going in sports
