MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — THE HOMECOMING DANCE IS GETTING CANCELED AT TWO MCPS HIGH SCHOOLS AFTER STUDENTS FAILED TO BUY ENOUGH TICKETS.
Northwest High School and Quince Orchard High School have canceled their traditional homecoming dances because of low student participation.
According to FOX 5 DC:
• Northwest High School: Fewer than 200 tickets sold.
• Quince Orchard High School: Just 63 tickets sold.
School officials made the decisions after ticket sales deadlines passed. Northwest acknowledged the disappointment for students who had already purchased tickets and made plans to attend. Refunds will be issued.
Other homecoming festivities, including school spirit activities and football-related celebrations, will continue.
This isn’t the first Montgomery County school to move away from the traditional dance. Thomas S. Wootton High School discontinued its homecoming dance several years ago, replacing it with a carnival following the football game.
Students interviewed by FOX 5 expressed disappointment, arguing that homecoming remains an important high school tradition even when attendance is low.
Meanwhile, schools in Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County reportedly still have their dances scheduled.
Fewer than 200 tickets at one school. Just 63 at another. Two traditional homecoming dances canceled.
Is the high school homecoming dance becoming a thing of the past, or are schools failing to offer events students actually want to attend?

The Port of Baltimore is thriving — and it’s because our administration’s worked in partnership with businesses and across all levels of government to bring major investments home to Maryland.
When we invest in our infrastructure and our workforce, businesses invest in us; that means good paying jobs for Marylanders and an economic keystone built to last.

Sixty-three years ago today, hundreds of Black residents in Selma, Alabama, lined up to register to vote on Freedom Day. They faced intimidation and deliberate delays. Supporters who tried to bring them food and water were beaten by law enforcement.
We honor their courage by exercising our right to vote and defending equal access to the ballot.
Make your plan to vote. Let’s continue the work to strengthen the Voting Rights Act and ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot without discrimination, fear or intimidation.

Wes Moore: “Trump blocked me from the shipbuilding event!”
Translation: “I was invited, but nobody gave me a microphone.”
There’s a difference between being banned from an event and not being the main attraction.
Apparently, in Annapolis, not getting a speaking slot is now a constitutional crisis.
Governor, not every event needs to be a Wes Moore TED Talk.
We’re really proud of what’s happened when it comes to economic growth and development in our state.
Our job growth rate has been double the national average over the past six months, we’ve added over 64,000 new businesses, and had over $17 billion in private investments.
This deal’s going to have an incredibly positive impact on our state’s economy, and nothing the President says changes that.
